An up-and-down week of Thanksgiving basketball culminated with the Knicks trudging to a 1-2 record.
Three impressive teams were on the docket for the past seven days. The Knicks started things off in Minnesota against the Timberwolves, the number one seed in the West. Despite a competitive first half, the wheels fell off in the back half and New York lost by 17.
Yesterday, against the Phoenix Suns, Jalen Brunson’s heroics came up just short, and an insane Devin Booker contested three gave Phoenix the win on the road. The Knicks looked alright, but it was a crushing loss nevertheless.
But sandwiched between these two disappointing victories, on Friday night, our old friends came to town. The Miami Heat opened up the second half on a 19-0 run, and the Knicks looked well on their way to another loss at the hands of Jimmy Butler. But the boys in orange and blue dug their heels in, overcoming a 21-point deficit. It was easily the best win of the young season and one of the most inspiring victories in recent memory.
The most consistent spark throughout the week? This week’s POTW, Immanuel Quickley.
Quickley started things off aggressively against Minnesota, ending up with 15 points in just 17 minutes. In the victory against the Heat, though, he really shined. IQ posted 20 points off the bench, hitting four triples, and providing a massive energy boost to a team searching for answers. He was on the floor for the entire fourth quarter, posting a +22 in a two-point victory.

Last night against Phoenix, he maintained his strong individual performance, scoring 18 points on efficient shooting from three. With under two minutes left, he made a key defensive play, swiping the ball from Devin Booker to cut the Knick deficit to one possession.
For the Knicks to continue their bid for a top seed in the East, the bench unit will have to keep up their strong play. IQ is their unquestioned leader. As long as Immanuel Quickley performs at this level, New York will continue to have a chance.
