Jalen Brunson is showing no love to his “coworkers.”
The Knicks guard recently took to Twitter to take a seemingly playful jab at Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo — his Villanova teammates during their 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball title run.
Hart exercised his 2023-24 contract option to stay with the Knicks while DiVincenzo inked a free agent deal to join forces again in New York.
“Let’s get one thing straight, stop asking me about josh,” Brunson tweeted Monday night. “Don’t ask about Donte. I don’t like them they’re not my boys. They are coworkers. Nothing more. Thank you.”
“Coworkers” is a harsh way to refer to teammates who helped lead the way to one of the most and dramatic NCAA Men’s Championships in recent history — the Wildcats beat North Carolina on a game-winning buzzer beater by Kris Jenkins in 2016 — although Brunson is known to joke around when it comes to his collegiate teammates.
The seventh-year guard also told Hart “delete my number” after he asked a curious question regarding whether his followers “ever tasted [their] significant other’s breast milk.”
It was only a matter of time before Divencenzo, who recently signed a four-year, $50 million contract with the Knicks, got some playful jabs from his new-old point guard on Twitter.
But make no mistake, Brunson understands that to win championships, he will need players like Hart and Divencenzo.
Both players can defend multiple positions on the perimeter while also creating their own offense off the bounce or spotting up to shoot from distance.
Hart played a crucial role in New York’s first trip to the Eastern Conference semi-finals since 2013.
He scored in double-digits seven times during the postseason and had four games with double-doubles with points and rebounds as well.
DiVincenzo also can have a similar impact scoring the ball as he shot near 40 percent from three for the Golden State Warriors last season.
