Knicks lose Jacob Toppin for Summer League after trading brother Obi

The Knicks’ summer league roster was announced on Monday afternoon with one notable omission.

Jacob Toppin, the younger brother of recently traded forward Obi Toppin, will not be playing in Las Vegas due to a minor injury.

The Knicks recently signed the undrafted Kentucky forward to a two-way contract.

The team’s lone draft pick the past two years, Trevor Keels, is on the roster.

Keels will be joined by undrafted Fordham wing Khalid Moore, Jaylen Martin of Overtime Elite, and DaQuan Jeffries — who signed a two-year contract with the Knicks in March after initially joining the franchise in November on a two-way deal.

Dice Yoshimoto, a longtime assistant under Tom Thibodeau, will coach the team.

The Knicks will begin their five-game slate Saturday against the 76ers at 5 p.m. and face the Nets the following day.

One intriguing name to follow is Isaiah Roby, a potential fit as a backup power forward in the wake of the Obi Toppin trade.

The Knicks signed him on the last day of the regular season to a non-guaranteed contract that covers next season.

The 6-foot-8, 25-year-old Roby was a second-round pick of the Pistons in 2019, and has appeared in 151 games across four NBA seasons.

His best year came in 2021-22 with the Thunder, when he averaged 10.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in 21.1 minutes spanning 45 games while shooting an impressive 44.4 percent from 3-point range on 2.2 attempts per game.

Last year with the Spurs, Roby averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 42 games.

Last summer, the Knicks had three notable players on the roster in Jericho Sims, Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride.

This year, not a single player on the summer league roster is expected to be in the rotation. year, not a single player on the roster is expected to be in the regular season rotation.
