BETHPAGE, N.Y. - Cablevision Systems Corp. says it recorded a profit in the first quarter, helped by growth in its core cable TV operations and the inclusion of revenue from the Long Island-based newspaper Newsday. The company will also consider spinning off the Madison Square Garden sports arena. Cablevision said Thursday it earned $20.2 million, or 7 cents per share, in the quarter that ended March 31. This compares with a loss of $31.6 million, or 11 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. Revenue rose 10 percent to $1.90 billion, and included revenue from the July purchase of Newsday. Last year, revenue totaled $1.72 billion. |
