Knicks, Chris Duhon agree to 2-year deal

After four years with the Bulls, point guard Chris Duhon is moving on, verbally agreeing to a deal with the Knicks on Friday, according to Duhon and his agent, Kevin Bradbury.

Bradbury could not comment on the terms of the deal. But a source said it was a major commitment on the part of the Knicks -- a two-year deal starting at the full mid-level exception. The value of the mid-level exception will be announced on July 9 (when contracts can officially be signed) but it's expected to be about $5.8 million, making Duhon's total contract worth around $12 million.

"I am just excited, I am ready to get to work for the Knicks," Duhon said. "It's a big stage, playing in New York. It's something every player in the NBA wants."

Duhon met with the Knicks on the first day of free agency. Making Duhon their first free-agent meeting was a clear indication that the new Knicks brass -- general manager Donnie Walsh and coach Mike D'Antoni -- was committed to making him their point guard. Duhon also met with the Magic on Wednesday, and was receiving interest from other teams. But the Knicks' willingness to offer their full mid-level slot showed they wanted Duhon.

"Chris could have shopped himself around more, but in the end, he wanted a fit where he felt comfortable and he knew what kind of opportunity he would be getting," Bradbury said. "He wasn't worried about trying to find more money on the market or anything like that. He wanted the right situation, and this just felt like the right situation."

The Knicks surely need Duhon, the best point guard now available on the unrestricted free-agent market. The team is expected to release point guard Stephon Marbury this summer. Even with Marbury, New York ranked last in the league in assists, and ranked 27th in 3-point shooting (33.7 percent).

Duhon averaged 6.9 points in his career with Chicago, but was mostly asked to be a defender and a ball distributor, taking open 3-pointers when they presented themselves. He averaged 4.5 assists in his Bulls career, against just 1.37 turnovers. More than half his shots with Chicago were 3s, and he made 35.6 percent of them.

Duhon had been liked by ex-Bulls coach Scott Skiles, who plugged him into various roles throughout his Chicago career. Typically, the team would try to make undersized guard Ben Gordon a starter early in the year, then give up on that idea, moving Gordon back to the bench in favor of Duhon's height and better defense. Duhon played 300 games for the Bulls, and 159 of them as a starter.

The opportunity to play for D'Antoni, maestro of the Suns' up-tempo offense before coming to the Knicks, was a major appeal for Duhon. "You know he is going to want to run and push the ball," Duhon said. "I feel, with the opportunity, I can do that. Really, I can't wait to get started."

He'll be starting on a long, daunting road, of course. The Knicks haven't finished over .500 since their magical Finals run in 2001. But the team drafted highly regarded forward Danilo Gallinari last week, and now, Walsh and D'Antoni are hoping that Duhon can play a key role in getting the team back into postseason contention.

Burger King Launches World's Most Expensive Hamburger

Thursday, June 19, 2008

After six months in development, Burger King has launched "The Burger," a limited edition hamburger selling for $200.

LONDON — It's known as the home of 'The Whopper' and Burger King is hoping its latest product really lives up to its reputation. The fast-food giant launched a $200 burger Wednesday — all in the name of charity.

Setting a new record, the world's most expensive burger is available at just one restaurant in West London, England, once a week — but it will eventually be available to order via a hotline.

The fine ingredients of what is called simply 'The Burger' include Wagyu beef, white truffles, Pata Negra ham slices, Cristal onion straws, Modena balsamic vinegar, lambs lettuce, pink Himalayan rock salt, organic white wine and shallot infused mayonnaise in an Iranian saffron and white truffle dusted bun.

Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson told Sky News Online: "It sounds delicious. The ingredients are very good and high powered, but why are Burger King doing it?"

All the proceeds from The Burger sales will go to the Help A London Child charity, which assists young people experiencing abuse, homelessness, disability, poverty and illness.

David Kisilevsky, at Burger King, said: "The Burger reflects our ongoing commitment to producing for a range of different pockets."

The Burger beat the previous world record for the most expensive burger, held by Daniel Boulud for the DB Double Truffle Burger in New York, (1994) priced at $130.

By lunchtime on the first day of The Burger's unveiling, eight had been purchased, said Chef Mark Dowding, the director of new product development and innovation for the fast food chain.

Dowding said he hoped that more than 100 would be sold by the end of the day.

Can't say I'm surprised. I doubt many are. I've been saying for years that this is more an entertainment venue than a professional sport.

At least that's what I tell myself in order to continue interest without getting all up in arms over bad calls and what not.

Even though the league has clearly backed down the tampering ever since delivering the title to Wade and Shaq....you can even see it in last night's game where the Lakers were pretty free to play physical defense without getting called for too many fouls at home that they weren't able to get away with away. It resulted in some horrid shooting and foul trouble that eventually sunk the Celtics by game's end.

It's just the way it is.

The way I see it there were always home called games and superstars that got leniency but Stern took it to a whole new level of blatant fixing of the game once Jordan left and a huge vacuum ensued. Watching LeBron consistently take 6 or 7 steps without dribbling the ball (Cleveland "beating" Washington) and Wade shooting 50 million FTs even when he wasn't even touched (Dallas "choking" against Miami) really put an end to any doubt IMO.

You always had Ewing's 4 steps to the rim, Reggie's throwing himself into players that got in the air, home calls shaping games..... but this blatant manipulation of games the past 7 or 8 years has been horrendous.

Oh well, again, it's an entertainment venue, it's not a professional sport.

Is it going to be as bad as this one day? Probably not but it sure was heading that way ever since Wade's five-non-called-violations "Series Changing Play!!!!" against the Mavs in the 3rd game of the Finals.

Since then it seemed like the league made an effort to go back the other direction and the fixing seemed less blatant as time went on.

You know, one reason the NBA became so popular through the 80s and 90s was the birth of hype and of featuring star players before and during games. It's just that the level of manipulation used to attempt to continue that or even further it is what has killed the game's integrity. Kids and casual fans don't see it. Long time fans do. Add in the whole "we're getting too ghetto" fiasco of a few years ago and now today the whole "and-1 sweetbawl" influence and background on the leagues young players and you have a fairly shaky product IMO.

Just go back to what we were doing during the 1985-1995 period of time and all will be well. There's plenty of tapes to watch and documents to read to remember what the formula was so I never did see the problem.

I guess to delinquents who idolize some fat sack of crap screaming unintelligable garbage into a microphone over extremely loud repetative beats while a bunch of hoodlum trash travels all over the place and chucks shots up from 40 feet away with a wide open rule book to follow.... it simply doesn't matter.

In fact, I wonder if that's what Stern was counting on in the first place for the present decade.

draft measurements

Eric Gordon. 6'2" no shoes, 224 pounds. Human Meatball anyone? He is the heaviest by far for anyone near that height that matters - or - the shortest by far for anyone near that weight that matters depending on how you like to look at it. Figure a few NBA paycheck sponsored lunches and this guy could be in the 230s at 6'2". Eh...I dunno about this guy.

For comparison: Allan Houston, 6'6", 220 pounds and was one solid dude.

if you have the time do one of Billy King, I really hate he keeps on being mentioned as a possible candidate for the gm position

Well, you can sift through if you choose, I just compiled it all from a site.

Here's Kings time frame in Philly:

06/02/97 76ers Billy King hired as VP of basketball administration
05/19/98 76ers Billy King promoted to GM
04/05/00 76ers Billy King re-signed as GM to a multi-year contract extension
05/26/03 76ers Billy King hired as president (in addition to GM)
12/04/07 76ers Billy King fired as president & GM

Here has what has happened during that time frame:

billy king sixers moves

On the second page, most of the way down, you see where he was promoted to GM so I guess you can take it from there but as president he probably had a say in the first page and a half, no?

Also of note is Pat Croce also had a huge hand in helping to build that sixers team that went to the finals so I have a hard time giving Billy King full congrats on doing that - i don't know if he could have done it without Croce there.

I don't know...I kept watching just to watch. If I watch a future game I will vidcap and upload it. Chances are I won't be watching much the rest of the way. Why bother? They stink, they're chumps, they have no heart, Isiah is going nowhere fast....so what's the point of tuning in? Maybe catching them on a once in a blue moon good night? To witness the 19th win of the season? Screw that......

Here's another Video Link Cosmic went out of his way to post in which some fatso calls our team THE NEW YORK BUMS
http://www.ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.asp?t=25793

So is the rule we can only bash... if they lose?...if you feel it's ok?...or when something is said by someone else in the media?...or if it's not against the younger players only against the choice vets? Why do you make fun of Crawford who's probably had his best season as a pro?

It's alarming you don't understand why fans are disappointed in Nate's immaturity. Just because the team won and he had a good personal highlight doesn't mean he can't be at fault, but oh well I guess.

[Edited by - TrueBlue on 04-10-2008 10:52 AM]

Um, yes, I call Crawful...Crawful because he is god awful. What does this have to do with bashing a team that won a game or players who played well in those games?

I'm lost.

Edit: I also am well aware of Nate's immaturity and touched on it in this thread and other threads over the course of the season.

So I'm confused as to what you're getting at.

Yahoo/Newsday speculate that the rumor is that Bird is getting fired and Walsh might be brought back in.

Who the hell knows...this is why you can't pay attention to rumors and 'inside info'.

Until the shoe drops..........
Bird may be out, Walsh in for Pacers, nixing Knicks
Larry Bird

Getty Images

If the New York Knicks have a list of potential candidates to replace Isiah Thomas as team president, one of the most respected names, Donnie Walsh, might not be available to them.

The 67-year-old Walsh has drawn interest from four teams, including the Knicks. One is Walsh's current employer, the Indiana Pacers, for whom he has worked for more than two decades. Pacers owner Herb Simon recently said there will be changes with the franchise this offseason, and that could mean the departure of Larry Bird, the president of basketball operations. Walsh, who essentially kicked himself upstairs when he hired Bird in 2003, could resume full control of the Pacers, who are likely to miss the playoffs for a second straight season.

"I think there's a lot of blame that could be passed around," Bird said before Monday night's game against the Knicks. "Obviously, it starts at the top. If you're at the top, you've got to take the hits like everybody else."

Isiah is never gonna coach again,
never gonna be GM,
never gonna commentate,

Never gonna be a scout,
never gonna leave a doubt,

GM.

LOL NICE

As to this news is this not about the fifth time the media had "Isiah Fired Today" thrown out there? As time goes on of course it's more likely to be true but until ITS ACTUALLY TRUE these are just empty words.

As to Rick Astley anyone see that college game that got Rick Rolled? LOL...
