The Great Jimmy Butler Test of 2018

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — On Monday, Steve Mills, Scott Perry and David Fizdale had a sort of “open forum” for a few select fans to ask questions. When specifically asked about trading for a free-agent-to-be like Jimmy Butler, this is what Mills had to say: “We’re going to build this team the right way. We’re not going to trade assets that we can get on our own later. … We’re not taking shortcuts. We’re not...

ESPN.com: Sources: Mario Hezonja agrees with Knicks on one-year, $6.5M deal

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — Woj and Ian Begley report: Free-agent forward Mario Hezonja has agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal with the New York Knicks, league sources told ESPN. The Knicks are hopeful that Hezonja, 23, will fulfill the potential to become the complete player that made him the fifth overall pick by the Magic in the 2015 NBA draft. On the pro side of things, Hezonja showed some real signs of turning...

Unsung Knick History – How the Olympics Helped the Knicks Land an Icon

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — This is the latest in a series of examinations into different games, events and decisions that impacted Knicks history in some way, shape or form. Stories that are not as famous as, say, “The Dunk” or Willis Reed playing Game 7, but still have a place in Knicks history, especially for die-hard fans. Here is an archive of all the stories featured so far (I have no idea when...

Knicks Draft Kevin Knox #9: My Least Favorite Thing to See in a Draft Profile

Knicker Blogger (Mike Kurylo) — So I’ll admit I’m not a big college sports junkie. If I have a friend over who really has to watch a college game or one of my friend’s favorite teams has a big game, I’ll turn it on. Beyond that, I like watching a championship game here and there. But that’s as far as I go. So of course when a draft comes around, I’ll admit I’m at a disadvantage. In...

2018 Draft Comment Thread

Knicker Blogger (Mike Kurylo) — Yours truly is actually heading to the draft, with some hastily printed signs. Maybe I’ll get on tv… Have at it!

“We Got Rid of Phil Jackson, Where’s Our Karmic Reward?” – The 2018 NBA Lottery Open Thread

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — The Knicks haven’t moved up in the lottery since they won the Patrick Ewing sweepstakes over thirty years ago. And that was working with much different lottery odds. Since then, the Knicks have been in 14 lotteries and have not moved up in ANY of them. They HAVE famously moved BACKWARDS in a number of them, though. Let’s hope that they get some karmic reward for not trying to tank...

Knicks Don’t Hire Mark Jackson! David Fizdale Hired to be the New Knicks Head Coach

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — According to Woj, the Knicks have agreed to a four-year deal with David Fizdale. Fizdale is a very popular coach among the players in the NBA and when he was the coach in Memphis, he ran a modern offense (while still paying attention to their team defense), so hopefully this works out. The main thing is, though, that he is not Mark Jackson. So I am pumped.

ESPN.com: Sources: Knicks dismiss Jeff Hornacek; candidates include David Fizdale, David Blatt, Mark Jackson

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — From Woj: The New York Knicks dismissed coach Jeff Hornacek early Thursday morning, league sources told ESPN. Knicks president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry informed Hornacek of his firing upon the team’s return to suburban New York following a flight back from Cleveland, where the Knicks beat the Cavaliers 110-98. Hornacek had one year left on his contract. Kurt Rambis,...

NY Post: The Knicks’ Jeff Hornacek rebellion is growing quickly

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — From Marc Berman, who sure seemed to have a direct line to Steve Mills back during Phil’s tenure with the Knicks (as Berman went from being over-the-top in his praise of Jackson to eventually picking away at Jackson constantly, right in line with Mills’ growing dissatisfaction with Phil): As Hornacek’s Knicks stint winds down to perhaps its final seven games, players may be...

Yahoo! – Sources: Troy Williams agrees to two-year deal with Knicks

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — Isn’t it crazy how Yahoo! lost the best basketball insider in the game and still manage to have an excellent basketball insider even after Woj left? Shams is amazing. Anyhow, from Shams: The New York Knicks and forward Troy Williams have agreed to a two-year contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Williams’ deal will be guaranteed for the remainder of this season and includes partial...

NY Daily News: Time is running out for Joakim Noah to reach buyout agreement with Knicks

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — From Stefan Bondy: Joakim Noah has until midnight Thursday or else he’s stuck with the Knicks. That’s the deadline for the exiled center to reach a buyout if he wants to sign elsewhere and be eligible for the playoffs. However, as late as Wednesday afternoon, there had been no progress in negotiations. The Knicks still didn’t want to release Noah without significant money coming back in a...

NY Post: Why Knicks luring Doc Rivers to New York is a possibility

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — From Marc Berman: It would be an easier sell for Clippers coach Doc Rivers if Kristaps Porzingis didn’t tear his ACL three weeks ago to complicate the Knicks’ rebuilding program. But according to a former Rivers associate, it’s not far-fetched for the one-time Knicks guard to have interest in the team’s coaching job if Jeff Hornacek, who has one year left on his contract, is let go after the...

2018 NBA All-Star Saturday Night

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — I figure we might as well have an open thread if anyone is going to be watching The Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest, and the Slam Dunk Competition tonight. With KP injured, the Knicks won’t have anyone involved in any of the competitions tonight, but honestly, it’s been a long time since we ever expected to see Knicks in these things, right? Even back in the day, John Starks...

HoopsHype: No team is shooting or making fewer three-pointers than the Knicks

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — Good article by Bryan Kalbrosky. Only the Golden State Warriors have a better catch-and-shoot field goal percentage this season. New York is shooting 38.7 percent from downtown when taking catch-and-shoot three-pointers, which ranks Top 5 in the East. But they rank last in the East (16.6) for attempts per game. They have not found a true spot-up shooter on their roster, as they have run this...

ESPN: Tim Hardaway Jr. Out for at Least Two Weeks

Knicker Blogger (Brian Cronin) — According to ESPN’s Ian Begley: Knicks say Tim Hardaway Jr. will be out for at least two weeks due to the stress injury in his lower left leg. Well, that’s not good.
