Can we get any position from 1-13 (but most likely get #8) or can we "win" a slot from 1-3 and if we dont win then its pick 8?

I was doing the mock draft at ESPN and i noticed new york only got spots 1-3 (rarely) or #8 (99% of the time). So.. some help out?

Hmm i tried a bunch more times and it seems like we get any number from 1-13. However, wouldnt us and toronto switch (7 to 8 or 8 to 7) pretty much every single time? We have almost the same probablities..

what hurts is that 97% of the time we finish with the 8th and toronto 7th and they take Gerald Green right before our eyes each and every time. Put on a positive note we wind up with Taft 97% of the time!

metra, only the top 3 spots are up or grabs in the lottery. After that the rest are determined by record.

So, the Knicks possibilities are picks:

1, 2, 3: if the ping pong balls go our way.

8: we dont win the lottery and neither does any team currently behind us (9-14)

9, 10, 11: if the unlikely possibility that 1 or more teams behind us win the lottery and jump ahead of us into the top spots.

With the Knicks luck we'll end up worse than 8th.

I feel really good going into next season. We just have to clean house and draft well. If we can get one of the top picks, it would be nice, but the option of dealing either our first pick or the late pick is still a great option

Andrew is right. We most likely will pick 8th or 9th.
It hurt to lose that coin-toss.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Count on us getting the 8th pick. The prospects for moving up are not great (something like 12.5%). On the bright side, we have a better chance of getting a top 3 pick than we do of picking lower than 8th.

Wrong, sorry.
We have a 70.4% chance of picking 8th, 12.3% chance of getting a top 3 pick, and a 16.5% chance of picking 9th.

Taft....good, 'cause we don't have enough power forwards. That makes 6 plus Tim Thomas (who is technically a 3, but really s/b a 4 because he doesn't have the ability to guard 3's). Excellent.

Sarcasm on by the way.

You're right, my bad. I forget to add up the chance that every team behind us has of moving up to the top 3.

LOL, I just play the lottery game 15 times. With the Knicks winning the whole thing 13% of the time, coming in 2nd 20% of the time and 3rd 7% of the time, 8th 47% of the time and 9th like 13% of the time. For me 60% of the time we get Taft, interestingly enough our first pick is always Bogut, while our 2nd and 3rd pick were Marvin Willaims. This is not the same for all teams though. It had Warriors getting the top pick and selecting Marvin Williams with the #1 pick, and had the Bobcats selecting Chris Paul. hmmm... I guess Ford already determined what some teams are taking.
