he New York Knicks' brass is doing its due diligence on star point guard Chris Paul while eyeing a splashy move this summer, league sources told ESPN's Frank Isola.

The 34-year-old is experiencing a resurgent year during his first season with the Oklahoma City Thunder following a surprise offseason trade from the Houston Rockets. In 31.7 minutes per game, Paul is averaging 17.5 points, 6.7 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals.

However, Paul's leadership has arguably been as impactful as his production.

After losing both franchise icon Russell Westbrook (in the Paul swap) and fellow All-Star Paul George (in a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers) last summer, Oklahoma City was expected to pivot toward a rebuild and not be successful short term. Instead, the Thunder are currently 38-24 (.613) - the league's 10th-best record - and they're rapidly bearing down on a playoff berth.

Fueling intrigue, former player agent Leon Rose previously represented Paul, and he was announced as the Knicks' team president on Monday.

There are two seasons remaining on the 10-time All-Star's contract past this campaign: $41.4 million for 2020-21, and a $44.2-million player option for 2021-22.
