Dwight Howard met with Phil. He said he wants to go to a team where he doesnt want to feel like he's got to carry the load every night. He says he's older and wants help stepping back and letting go of some of the responsibility. He says he knows he can still be a force on the basketball court, but also wants to play more of a role and team game.
What if he says he's been misunderstood, and he wants to prove to the basketball world he's about team and winning? And he wants NY to be the place he can do it?
What if he says he salivates at the chance to play next to KP and he envisions them together as the "Iron Curtain of the NBA"
I mean most here agree Dwight is a class A douche, and most likely responsible for any BS that swirls around him. I do... but there is opportunity here so we have to look hard at it.
He turns 30. Everyone is different, but I remember that being a big turning point for me on the ball field. I became more tactical and throttle. I saw at the same speed, but 80% of the time moved at a slower one (saving the full throttle for when it had the most impact).I was always a team first guy, but I played amateur so to be fair I could not promise my attitude wouldnt be different if it was may check at risk. The point is at 30 Dwight could be starting to see things are changing for him and his needs are changing and he may be OK with that.
I have no clue... maybe once a douche always a douche, but he's a prime reclamation target that can still play at a high level. With KP playing some 5 late and Melo at the 4 we could sub him in and out so we dont get victimized by his FTs.
Man.. 71 games last year and 32 mpg, its only money. You have to think we could move him next off season to some team that whiffed on overpaying, etc..
I think Horford is the best choice, but after that Dwight looks like the most upside, best fit... can JH manage those rocks between the ears? What do you need to hear from Dwight that makes this an option you can stomach?
