Do fans need to give him credit for being in NY for a full week during the year too?
But if you wait for those guys to expire do you get to draft KP?

It's not about them expiring its about the notion that Phil did an incredible job turning the roster over. That group was on the way out regardless all he needed to do was get the most out of the tradable players.

Phil wasn't just trading players - that's what all of you armchair GMs seem to miss. Phil was transforming culture, he was seamlessly setting up the Knicks for the lottery, he was serving notice that the Knicks were going to operate differently, he was installing a system that was not a suggestion, and he was instituting a new organizational structure. The trade-off was the perception that his trades were poor exchanges on a player for player basis.

Those who use binary, black and white logic in evaluating what Phil is doing can't even see the chess match in progress.

It's silly to criticize Phil in some grand way this early. And no true sports fan wants to return to star-phucking our way to mediocrity, chronically injured pseudo-stars, and eternal calls for yet another change of personnel.

It isn't a chess match, Phil isn't getting the upper hand on anyone, and despite what you think Phil is gonna "starphuck". Now when he doesn't have a meeting with an unrestricted Durant, I will believe otherwise. Now if Durant interviews with no one then I wont blame Phil.

1- Establishing how much Luke Walton is making as HEAD COACH of the Lakers

http://lakers.247sports.com/Bolt/Report-Luke-Waltons-contract-with-Lakers-is-worth-25-million-45107137

The Los Angeles Lakers picked up one of the hottest names on the coaching market on Friday night as Golden State Warriors assistant Luke Walton agreed to become the team's next head coach.

With the Lakers coming off of the two worst seasons in the history of the franchise, Los Angeles had to prove that they were committed to building this team back up and they made that clear to Walton with the contract that they offered him.

According to a report from Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times, Walton agreed to a five-year deal with Los Angeles that will pay him around $25 million over the life of the contract.

Walton, who led Golden State to a record of 39-4 while Steve Kerr was recovering from offseason back surgeries, will remain with the Warriors until their postseason run comes to an end.

Luke Walton's Contract With Los Angeles Lakers A Huge Bargain In Today's NBA Head Coaching Market

The Los Angeles Lakers clearly meant business when it came to their head coaching search, getting top candidate Luke Walton to sign on the dotted line the same day as his first and only meeting with the organization.

The new deal, which came together less than a week after firing former coach COH -2.28% Byron Scott, was first reported on Friday evening. But it wasn’t until Saturday that the terms of the deal were released: five years (four guaranteed) with a base of $5 million per season.

After one season away from coaching in the NBA, Tom Thibodeau has agreed to a five-year contract with Minnesota Timberwolves to become the team’s coach and president of basketball operations.

The deal could pay Thibodeau as much $11 million annually, according to people with details of negotiations.

"I started my NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves and it is an incredible opportunity to rejoin the organization at a time when they have what I believe to be the best young roster in the NBA," Thibodeau said in a statement. "Together with a great owner in Glen Taylor and a terrific basketball partner in Scott Layden, I look forward to building a winning culture that Minnesota sports fans can be proud of."

The Timberwolves also hired San Antonio Spurs assistant general manger Scott Layden as the T'Wolves general manager.

Thibodeau, who has been interested in full control of personnel, takes over a young team with some talent, starting with center Karl-Anthony Towns, who is expected to be named 2015-16 rookie of the year. Guard-forward Andrew Wiggins, guards Zach LaVine and Rick Rubio, forwards Nemanja Bjelica and Shabazz Muhammad and center Gorgui Deng give Thibodeau a foundation with which to work.

Thibodeau, who is also an assistant with U.S. men’s Olympic team, was dismissed as coach of the Chicago Bulls after the 2014-15 season. He had a 255-139 record in five seasons with the Bulls, taking them to conference finals in 2011 and the conference semis in 2013 and 2015.

Known as defensive-minded coach, Thibodeau is an underrated offensive coach. The Bulls were 10th in offensive efficiency in 2014-15, five in 2011-12 and 12th in 2010-11.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Tom Thibodeau back to the Timberwolves,” said Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. “Through this process we quickly identified Tom as the best leader to shape our talented team and help them realize their full potential. Tom’s resume speaks for itself. He is a proven winner, leader and one of the most well-respected NBA head coaches over the last decade. His teams have annually been among the league leaders in defense and we are excited about the approach and mentality he will bring to that side of the ball. The future of the Minnesota Timberwolves has never been brighter and we are very pleased to have Tom as our basketball operations leader moving forward."

There’s no doubt Thibodeau will push this team, and his coaching, along with player development, could push Minnesota toward 40 victories next season after finishing 29-53 this season.

He also has a demanding style that wore on some players near the end of the time with the Bulls. He also clashed with the front office.

"You learn from everything you go through," Thibodeau told NBA.com in September, "and you want to put that experience to use."

He doesn’t have to worry about front-office battles now. He’s the president of basketball operations and will work in concert with a general manger of his choice.

Thibodeau missed the game. That is fact. This season, he spent time with various teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets and San Antonio Spurs. He recently has appeared on ESPN as an analyst.

He told NBA.com that he wanted to use the season as a sabbatical.

The sabbatical is just about over. Unless negotiations fall apart in the 11th hour, Thibodeau is back in the NBA.

Tom Thibodeau agreed to a five-year, $40 million deal to become president of basketball operations and head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
San Antonio Spurs assistant general manager Scott Layden also agreed to a deal to join Thibodeau as general manager.

Thibodeau emerged as the frontrunner in pursuit of the job in recent days, selling owner Glen Taylor on his vision of sustained success and playoff basketball in Minnesota.

Thibodeau was drawn to the full control of the organization and the chance to coach a talented young core that includes rookie center Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

Jeff Van Gundy was among the finalists for the job.

Thibodeau, 58, had clashes with Chicago management in his successful five-year run with the Bulls and embraced a Minnesota management model based upon Stan Van Gundy's setup with general manager Jeff Bower in Detroit.

Thibodeau has a strong relationship with Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett, who has yet to announce he's playing another season with the team. Garnett has had aspirations of joining the team's ownership group upon retirement. Thibodeau and Garnett were part of Boston's 2008 NBA championship team.

Layden has previously been the general manager for the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks.

The reason why I bring this up is because he should have learned from last summer already that he IS NOT ATTRACTING talents over with The Triangle or his presence
However, he has done nothing to stop this from happening, possibly NOT EVEN OFFERING Luke Walton a HUGE contract like 8-12m per year + incentives that would allow us to attract future TOP TIER talents, run a TEAM basketball, and coming from a winning pedigree

IF he offered Luke Walton such a contract, which I Doubt because that is 2-3x more money than the Laker's would be paying him
Then he should have targeted Thibs who at least ran the Triangle

Out of ALL coaches, Phil Jackson should understand leverage as he used to earn HUGE contracts while he was Head Coach of Chicago and Lakers
He changed the perception and value of how much a HEAD COACH can make, despite all the talent he had to go with his roster

After winning
Now Phil Jackson's has the BEST record in NBA history, however, it is very misleading as he chooses to "retire" when he feels his players/talents are unable to compete for a Championship Ring as his talents decline, along with even mid tier talents and role players

Phil Jackson as Head Coach in Chicago
===========================================

After establishing himself as a TOP TIER Coach with his tenure in Chicago, winning 6-9 seasons with them and Jordan didn't play for 2 of those seasons when he first retired, and one season while he made his attempt to come back towards the end of the season and was eliminated without advancing to the Finals for the first time since he won his first ring

He has done that with Chicago first
However, after that the break up lead to Jordan's 2nd retirement (before he played again for the Wizards a couple seasons after)
Pippen (about 1m per year though he made much more in his shoe deals with Nike) had to vastly make MUCH LESS than what he deserved at the time in order for Jerry Krause

in addition to Pippen/Jordan being the BEST SG/SF combination on both OFFENSE and DEFENSE, with the ability to LOCKDOWN and DEFEND MULTIPLE POSITIONs, from PG to PF (Pippen), Jordan from PG to SF,
Pippen played a smaller role with Jordan, however, when he was at his peak he was a greatly under rated/versatile player on both OFFENSE and DEFENSE and when Jordan retired the first time, he showed that (though he never won a ring without Jordan)

Under rated talents that playd smaller roles
==================================================

other talents include Tony Kukoc, Dennis Rodman, Ron Harper (who played as a role player and was one of the more athletic combo guards before his knee injury at the time with great size at the PG position)
Brian Williams aka Bison Dele played one year for Chicago and was a very GOOD Center at the time

They had great size, versatility on both OFFENSE and DEFENSE, with TOP TIER talents on both ends of the floor
Most importantly Phil Jackson had players that scored 50-60%, demanding double teams which lead to quality looks and easy baskets, whether it was Jordan, Shaq, Pau Gasol

The players that I can see doing this on OFFENSE that are in this league are Cousins, Blake Griffen, Anthony Davis, Durant
Not sure of Whiteside can do it on OFFENSE but he is young and is a stud on rebounds/block shots/DEFENSE
on a lower level LMA and LBJ because of his age

Curry,
Lilliard/Westbrook from the guard positions

Now with the addition of Luke Walton, The Lakers have the cap space and can attract a TRIP of TOP TIER talents like The Head did with LBJ/WADE/Bosh
They can also add another TOP TIER talent such as Westbrook the following year

With the SF and Center position being the positions needed for the Lakers
they can target Lebron/Durant and Whiteside, while still going for another TOP TIER talent from Westbrook/Blake Griffen/CP3 or Lowery and other 2nd tier options

Virtually EVERY TEAM, including Timberwolves can attract talents better than us, and Phil Jackson has done NOTHING to make NYK's more attractable for future FA's, instead concentrating on the Triangle with players/talents that are not even on the caliber to attract or execute the Triangle on a Championship level (meaning he would have to attain such players and teach it again and build chemistry if that ever happens)

They also had the ability to facilitate, create and finish their own shots, and create for the team, and were ALL under rated very good rebounders/defenders as well

Combination of different role players
Many different role players with shooters, 3 & D G/F's, and rotation of Centers
Paxson, BJ Armstrong, Steve Kerr

Jud Bucheler, Randy Brown

Brian Williams for one season (probably the most talented Center Jordan played with)
Longley, Cartright, Bill Wennington, Will Perdue, Robert Parish

IMO, Robin Lopez was somewhere in between the talent level of these players however if you sub Robin Lopez in for Shaq, Gasol, would the Triangle still work?
The Triangle has proved to work WHEN PHIL JACKSON TOP TIER talents that already have chemistry with one another, while he gad great versatile talents and players that consistently demanded double teams

WE ARE NO WHERE NEAR that type of talent that The Bulls had or the Laker teams whether with Shaq or Gasol
IF we are able to get that type of talent, we still have to have them learn the system, build team chemistry, and collect the role players needed

I do not believe the trio of

Robin Lopez/KP/ CA are good enough as they are not good enough on DEFENSE and are too slow and take up much room to penetrate that small ball allows, yet are unable to defend teams that are able to spread the floor, especially if they have multiple threats that could penetrate/finish

Phil Jackson making EVERYTHING AROUND THE TRIANGLE while KNOWING HE DOES NOT the talent to execute it on a Championship level with the DEFENSIVE players on a Championship LEVEL is apparent
He would have NEVER coached this NYK's team that he built and would quit to hurt his record on the win loss column

The talent that Phil Jackson had is much more important than the system itself
Stop flaunting the Triangle and its passed success's

Last summer we struck out on FA, unable to acquire Aldrige, Jordan, or even Greg Monroe
This summer it will be the same thing, along with next summer
That is why Phil Jackson should have at least offered Luke Walton a HUGE contract, from 8-12m per year along with incentives, to be able to attract FA's

At least OFFER a contract that would be hard to refuse, do not offer the same amount or similar that The Lakers or another team would and HOPE they would choose New York
If he knew Walton was still unavailable, NOT EVEN interviewing Thibs was a huge mistake, who at least ran 20% of the Triangle with Chicago and has knowledge and respect throughout the league, especially as a DEFENSIVE Coach, in which we surely need to improve much with

Because EVERY TEAM has much money to spend along with the FA's these next couple of seasons, it is a HUGE transition and pivotal for Phil Jackson and The NYK's to be able to attract/lure such targets
And he should be looking to improve the TEAM EVERY WAY POSSIBLE
Like targeting development coaches and trainers to WORK and TEACH the talent/skills we lack to execute TEAM play
Along with collecting team friendly contracts/continued develop talent etc...

Kurt Rhambis will never be able to attract anyone and he does NOT even have the support of his own players

Phil Jackson has been taking blows at CA since he has resigned with NYK's like he has been taking blows after trading past NYK's talents such as JR Smith/Iman Shumpert/Tyson Chandler/AB

On top of that he took a blow at GS, Kerr, and Curry (who will be a UFA in a couple of seasons) last year when Memphis was up 2-1 in the series

For now, it will be apparent that we will not be able to recruit any TOP TIER talents, despite the rise of the cap these next couple of seasons and THE TOP TIER FA's that will be available

So we should concentrate on getting collecting talents, hire our Mark Jackson (where GS was a couple years back)
in other words, running a more simple OFFENSE but getting the team to play tough on DEFENSE and playing better as a team, than concentrating on executing the Triangle

if he is so fixated on the Triangle
as the former assistants of Fisher and Scott Brooks will likely go to Washington

hire former players/development staff/ and upgrade trainers as well while to aqcuire young players/draft picks and selling CA or Robin Lopez or any contract on a positive note

Ron Harper, Brian Shaw, Horry (who also played for other HOF talents with Hakeem/Clyde and that Rockets roster, along with Poppavich/ Duncan etc), Fix Fox, Pippen, Kukoc

IMO, Pau Gasol would do wonders for the development of KP and could play for Poppavich next season
However, he could be a future HC with the Triangle and NYK's along with developing KP as he gets stronger (though I think KP should learn to be more like Dirk right now with the PnR, Pick and mid range Post, even improve his handle and ability to finish high % shots with his range/lengt/mobility
Give Pau Gasol a head up so he can mentality prepare himself to being a future HC like Kerr was given a couple years earlier

Even Lamar Odom and other guys fully supported the Triangle could help as a development coach as he turns his life around

it doesn't have to be Triangle Tree Disciples

Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine Oneil, Rod Strickland, Andre Miller *if we get a BIG guard that is capable of Posting UP*
Shane Battier for DEFENSE and the jump and different roles from college to different roles on the team

if Phil Jackson didn't make a HIGH PAYING CONTRACT OFFER to Luke Walton, he should resign
