Wouldn't this have to be applied only to new contracts? Would a player that has a long term deal in place really have to bound to this type of addition to a new CBA? Grandfathering in current contracts seems unfair, not that these guys getting paid a kings ransom to play a game is fair.

And does a franchise tag really help the NBA? Football is such a different sport than the MLB, NBA, and NHL. It's just a 16 game season and one and done/single elimination playoff. I'm not seeing how logically this helps or would be applied to an 82 game season and why the players' association would agree to getting paid less when you are considered the team's best player.

I don't get it...obviously.
