Playa2 saying he's on the summer league roster (nice job coming up with this playa - why's your thread locked on the Off-Topic forum btw???)

I agree with you Playa, very intriguing pick up. I discussed him a few weeks ago when we were discussing some cost-effective John Starks/Anthony Mason-type high ceiling role players that are out there currently flying under the radar. This ain't bad. No risk/ultra high reward possibility. With the MLE going to Duhon, albeit for only 2 yrs., that basically put an end to any JR Smith/Sasha Vujacic big 2-guard speculation. But Von Wafer's not a bad alternative. Won't cost nearly as much as those two guys, decent size for a 2 (6'4"-6'5"), very young (only 22, 23 yrs. old), very athletic, effective scorer (good going to the bucket, dunks, mid-range pull-ups, threes...). He needs PT to develop a complete game which he hasn't gotten yet (he's a little turnover prone - but so are a lot of young guys out there that are trying to impress & prove they belong in the league) but there's no arguing that he looks NBA-ready offensively.

Glad the Knicks are giving him a look. Very smart. Honestly, one of the most talented summer league invitees I can ever remember the Knicks bringing in... He'd be a nice option for D'Antoni off the bench. If he plays well I could see him making the club to be perfectly honest. If Wafer ever played well enough to stick, I could see us now seriously shopping Nate, Mardy & Crawford, along with Lee. Now if we ever traded Lee for some young talent, I'd continue to go this cost-effective route and look to add Louis Amundson (a little raw and not as developed as Lee, but he has all his hustle at a fraction of Lee's eventually cost) and Justin Williams (again raw but the shot-blocking element that we need that we could add for peanuts, depending on how much of the LLE would be left over if we did ink Wafer to an NBA contract). I just love small high-reward stuff like this (Qyntel Woods, Randolph Morris, etc...). If nothing else, just another reason to watch these summer league games. Get those TiVos ready fellas....

Justin Williams should definitely be given some serious consideration... we need someone who can block shots in a major way.

I'm not trying to throw cold water on this whole Von Wafer thing, but there has to be a reason he's been cut by 4 teams.

to be honest i dunno how Wafer addresses any of our needs seeing as tho Jamal is already established here & Nate is likely the main scoring option off the bench on the perimeter... if we get rid of Mardy i guess he could fill an end of the bench role for us but if u ask me i'd much rather address a glaring need if we're going to use the LLE... personally i think we need to target a defensive minded backup in the frontcourt over any more perimeter players... giving Wafer a look in Summer Leagues definitely can't hurt, but i don't think he has much of a place on this team unless some moves are made involving Nate or Mardy.

That's true. I hope that he just needs the right coaching to be successful, but I'm not holding my breathe. Maybe in a system like D'Antoni's he can find alot of success though.

Wafer has a shot because he is a guard. My guess is that D'Antoni isn't looking for a shot blocker and if one is acquired it will be because Walsh wants one.

It's a conspiracy.

Plus, we have an "Official" summer league thread stickied at the top of the forum:

There's a nice clip of Von Wafer getting posterized there.

Didn't Von Wafer average like 42pts in summer league for Denver a couple seasons ago or was it last season.

Von Wafer and Delonte Holland are both guys who can score the ball a heckuva lot.
