First practice Friday. First game Monday. Lots of discussion is bound to ensue.

How will the rooster do in his first live action in the states?

Will it matter?

All these questions, and more, will be answered in this official thread.

The KnicksNew York Knicks expect to sign Bulls free-agent backup point guard Chris Duhon today after last night inking their first-round pick, Danilo Gallinari, to the standard rookie two-year, $5 million pact for sixth overall picks.

Stephon MarburyStephon Marbury ? He still twists in the wind, with Knick President Donnie Walsh not yet ready to take action until likely next month.

When Duhon agreed to terms July 4, his agent, Kevin Bradbury, set off fireworks, anointing his client as the Knicks' starting point guard.

MORE: Knicks Blog

Whispers inside the organization grow louder by the day that Marbury will be bought out of the final year of his contract. But Walsh is still exploring trade scenarios on all fronts, with Eddy CurryEddy Curry , Zach Randolph, David Lee and Jamal Crawford all being shopped, before he can comfortably cut ties with the Knicks' lightning rod.

Adding Duhon and Gallinari, a project, are not exactly major upgrades for a 23-59 club.

The Knicks hold their first summer-league practice Friday in Las Vegas, and Gallinari is to debut Monday vs. Cleveland.

The Knicks bought out Gallinari's contract with Milan for $500,000. Second-year man Wilson Chandler, plus 2006 first-rounders Renaldo Balkman and Mardy Collins, also will play, as will Nate Robinson, who will do it for the fourth straight year.

The Knicks will hold an adjacent voluntary minicamp in which Marbury and Duhon are expected to participate. Curry considered playing a summer-league game to test his surgically repaired knee but will only work out.

Nate Robinson is playing, which IMO is pointless (though I don't knock him for wanting to keep sharp). Hopefully he just makes some cameos. Mardy Collins needs some run as first team PG, and other guys need some opportunity to be more of a 1st/2nd option.

We probably won't find out till camp breaks. Actually my guess is that a bunch of guys playing in Orlando will probably sign on with some of the squads playing in Vegas.

Well I personally think its better for Nate to participate in summer league. He loves to ball and he would be in countless street/semi-pro leagues all summer anyway. Nba summer league is closer to real nba organized ball. Nate needs to focus on being a point guard which he has been developing pretty good since he's been a pro. I'd rather he be trying to run an offense than trying to dazzle a streetball crowd.

The only reason why nate wants to play in the summer league is that by playing there he can unleash all his street skill antics with out getting fined or benched for it.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

There are some things Nate needs to work on, but he's advanced enough at this point where I don't know if he needs to be taking away burn from some of the other guys who need a bit more work. I understand the need to keep playing some at point, but I'd rather do that in preseason and see if Mardy or some other young point (i.e. Jared Jordan) can play. Last year Nate played down there and basically dominated, so I'm not sure what else is there for him to conquer.

Well its about our player development, not showcasing EnySpree the low life that took vacation time out from his 9-5 to hopefully get a sniff of pro ball in Norway, etc......lol.

I feel you though. Collins probably will be showcased. He's the only one that has tons to prove. He really needs to show somebody something now.....like nate did last year, cuz right now I can't see Collins in the league past his current contract the way he's looked last year.

I tend to agree that Nate should play only in maybe one game. Mardy needs to get the majority of the burn and we should be looking at some other pg prospects.

So, Evil, you think you can get your thread stickied just by putting the word "official" in the title? Who do you think you are? dj?

Whoops, I thought I had pasted the roster not the actual link. I didn't mean to shamelessly self promote!

I guarantee that the best player on the team will be Von Wafer and that there will be posters wanting him for the team.

Was Paul Miller the nice shooting big man from last year? Maybe he gets a better look for a roster spot this season.

I know Wafer has had a few cups of coffee in the NBA. What's the opinion on this guy?

How about Brandon Hunter - is he Paul Millsap or Paul Millsap w/o hops?

Wafer is a pure scorer but he's a tad bit too small at the 2 guard position particularly at the defensive end (195). Roberson is intriguing. He can really shoot it from the pg position. With Roberson and Collins on the roster, I really see no need for Robinson to be on this roster.
