Zach is a flat out BEAST! He isn't all athletics like Howard. No dunks just a lot of power, skill, agility and quickness. He has a variety of moves and spins, flip shots, up and unders, floaters. He has range and his shooting motion is smooth. He should be able to co-exist with Curry, especially if Curry has indeed added a jumper to his game.

This is the one move that I see being one that will lead directly to more wins. At a certain point overwhelming talent will net some results. Now if they can defend better than last year, this team is gonna be tough to beat. I'm not saying they have to be the Pistons or Bulls, just improve their D so that they aren't an open door. That's mainly the starters, cuz our bench has always been able to shut teams down so we can get back in games. It's this fact that gives me hope cuz really it's not bad D all game long it's mainly in the 1st and 3rd qtrs, when the starters are in there.

This year not only will our starters be better offensively, but I think with the right lineup we can be better defensively. Heck just taking Francis out of the picture should help a little. I'm expecting Q and Steph to come back in better shape this year and that could help a great deal. Balk and Jared being there should also help a LOT. Man the more I look at it, the more optimistic I get. Man i'm out of control. I need to get some help for this positive outlook thing.

Some of you dudes sound foolish.............. how the hell do you work on defense other playing Jackasses!!!!!! It's not like taking free throws, there is no drill for defense and shot blocking. You play for these things.

What? Are you kidding? Are you really saying there are no defensive drills that you can do individually or with a couple of people?

tsk tsk.. how about..

To help develop your quickness, work on footspeed drills such as jumping rope, doing defensive slides, running sprints, running stadium stairs, and doing cone drills. By increasing your quickness, you'll be a better defender.

these are just a few. there are many drills you can do.

Then there are the mental aspects of D. Forcing your man to where you want him to go. Making him use his weak hand or forcing him towards help. Reading and anticipating a players movements. Proper spacing when covering a quicker player. How to fight over picks. How to use proper leverage in the post. Recognizing which hand a shooter uses and then putting up the correct arm when trying to block a shot on either a right hander or left hander. Perhaps having a guard try to layup on you or shoot over you and practicing your timing for shotblocking.

definitions of fluid? Style? come on earl, you gotta be able to come better than that...sounding a little like "i know you are but what am I"

Looking at that video, HOOFAH!

Imagine if lee could glide to the hoop like that...all star.
imagine if Frye did glide to the hoop like that...all star.

Only concern was that most of those scores, there was a man wide open on the wing.

Curry is in trouble of getting eclipsed, not because he's not a better physical speciman, it's because he doesn't seem to have a knack for the game without the ball.

Zach hitting three's and deep jumpers was pretty scary.

He's a beast.

Curry will do just fine, dump it to Curry, cut to the hoop...if the PF doubles curry, then we will score and vice versa.

Not worried...playing defense and rebounding is part of the definition of the player...not sure why we are qualifying what aspects of the game curry maybe better...but zach is better...numbers and hustle speak for themselves.

if curry is in shape..IF IF IF...then he's a beast in the zach category (zach could use a little conditioning himself).

Our issues were perimeter defense...can we just trade for artest already.

Give up the mayor and Rose and toss in an expiring.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

I will pair my first team against my second team during scrimmages. For the full hour scrimmage one team is never allowed to go on offense. They play defense for the full day. They keep track of how many points the offensive team scores in an hour. Then the next day the other team tries to beat that. It creates this strong defensive mentality. Guys hate it when they come in and they know on that day they are just going to play defense, but as the practices goes on they get really intense. They will do anything to stop the other team from scoring. A few weeks of that and the defensive mentality of every player on the team changes. A couple seasons of that and guys are doing it on their own time in pickup games. A couple years of that and you have voracious defenders. When the offensive team scores on them, they get angry. When the offensive team scores consistently they want to kill the guy that keeps getting scored on. When the games start the mentality is something I love and other teams hate. I don't have the best teams in my league every year. But noone wants to play us.

I then invite other schools to come play us. I tell them that they can work on their offensive sets and my team will only play defense for the full 40 minutes. We'll grab the rebound run it up court and then hand it back to you. They used to think I was crazy. Now they won't do it because they realized how much it was helping us and not them. It's all about defense.

Now obviously the KNicks don't have the time to do things like this. But there are many ways to change the mentality of the players. We just have to try to make them commit to it. WE have been making too many excuses for it.

This is an excellent drill Bip. I've coached 1 year of summer ball in NY and will make my debut as assistant coach for a Middle school this year in Atl. I'm more of an offensive-sets guy but I definitely will use this defensive drill (if you dont mind) with my players this year.

I do similar drills offensively. During practice, when a team is on offense, I never count a basket if its a bad-shot or if they didn't run through the offensive set at least one time. The players hate-it but it teaches discipline on offense in terms of taking good shots.

Who you teaching?? Kids. After Jr high, I never had coach make me do those drills.

Curry isn't doing posture drills like a 5th grader. Guarding a trainer in the post ain't going to help urry with his shot blocking and help D. He has to play in game situations....

Actually the coach at Uconn, who is going to the hall of fame is the one I stole that idea from. If it's good enough for a hall of famer and his consistently top 10 national program and 2 national titles, than it's good enough for my prep school.

It works. It's a mentality thing. With younger kids you can probably do less time(1/2 hour) just because their attention spans are so short and they need to learn so much. But as a drill it really changes the mentality of the players in a hurry.

All of the above, plus you can study tapes of great defensive players to work on and mimic their technique and study opposing offenses and offensive players to learn their tendencies.

Seriously doubt Currys coaches are trying to "break" him by making do drills without the ball. THese are NBA players and that is not a defensive drill............

Right, when they get to the NBA level you hope they try to improve these things on their own. That is our hope.
