somebody made a post a few days ago but this team needs to first figure out a style of play and THEN get the players for it.

I think that was BRIGGS in the MSG Politics (and Marbury) Remain At The Core of This Streak thread.

I remember it because I found it worrisome that BRIGGS was starting to make sense to me.
BRIGGS:
I think a key to being a good GM in basketball is finding a style of play and finding players that fit it. Look at what Pheonix has done since they started this. SA Detroit the Knicks in the 90 the pacers etc....

we currently have a Marbury / Crawford backcourt... does that fit into some style of play you guys are speaking of? cuz i don't see it personally.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Another year, another starphuch.

yep its amazing how it goes in a cycle. Francis is the biggest starphuch ever. Houston and Orlando couldn't wait to get rid of him and it's not only his character

My problem with obtaining Francis is that the Knicks still don't understand that we need DEFENSE...not more offense. I won't be too unhappy if Crawford is traded though, he has flashes but overall I think he will always have the problems he has now.

Andrew, i'd say that Francis is a better defender than Craw is. I think he's much more aggressive on D than Craw is. I also think he stays away from the bonehead plays that Craw makes sometimes in games.

thats like choosing between diet coke and caffeine free. Francis(caffeine free) is a slightly better defender but a a midget can only do do much against 6-6 SGs who score 23+ on average

You can't just say, we want to be this or that type of team and go do it. If it was that simple EVERYTEAM would be great. You can't always GET the players you might want. Exactly HOW are the knicks going to get players who can play both sides of the ball. Its not like teams are just willing to give us great two way players. This is why most years guys who are like Francis get traded. Very rarely does a real stud get traded.

SO basically we are stuck with making these kinds of deals and hoping we catch a break and one of these deals actually works. We can't get under the cap and couldn't have under any scenario so this is what we do. We also have picks and could try to get another and that's another way to build the team. So I say do what we can with Penny's contract and see if we can get lucky.

Oh...I agree 100% and I would welcome the switch from that standpoint. But, from a playoff/championship building standpoint it seems like a very lateral move

yep starphuching at its best! my only hope is that perhaps we can trade them for expiring contracts and a lottery pick 3yrs from now as we continue to lose 50+ games and finally give in to rebuilding.

At this point I would do the deal who really cares I need a reason to go to games these days, do not include Nate or Lee, Ariza, Crawford is a wash......

Its worth it just to move Crawford he isn't as good off the dribble and on defense....Francis is also a name that will put a few people in the seats which is really what they are concerned about.....If this happens its time to go young for the rest of the season, Malik and Mo do not play

Marbury/Nate
Francis
Rose/Woods
Frye/Lee
Curry/James

I would be fine with watching that team

I guess we can do this deal just to get rid of Crawford and his contract which extends through 2011 whereas Francis expires in 2009. Now just have to acept that it's been 7yrs since we had a legit contender and another 5-10yrs more before we finally give into rebuilding and draft the next Ewing. So at this rate look to be contending by 2020 or when Dolan is too old to run the team into the ground.

The deal I've seen discussed includes sending Nate Robinson, David Lee or Trevor Arzia to Orlando.

I'm guessing they'd want David Lee.

If we did do this we need to move marbury to the off guard and seeif francis can run the offense. Cause it doesnt seem like Marbury is ever going to mold into the point guard LB wants him to be. I have no problem giving up crawford, hes streaky and he is a chucker and he will always be that way IMO. Although giving up Ariza, Lee, or Nate I have a problem with especaily if its more then just one of them. If its two of them and we dont get a draft pick I dont want the deal at all. I would be willing to give one I dont which though because I love nates energy, hard work, tough guy who doesnt take **** from anyone atittude that used to define knicks basketball. Ariza has a lot of potential of being a shut down defender which we desperately need, he might even be our best defender. As for Lee he also shows a lot of promise but we do have channing fyre and eddy curry as our front court for some time to come and losing a back up PF might not be the worst. I dont know its a tough decision. Francis-Marbury back court could be absolutely un****ing real or a complete ****ing disaster. If we give up Ariza, Lee, Penny, and Crawford and got back Francis, 1st rounder(prefreably unprotected) and someone to even the salary cap. I'd probably do it. Its still very risky.

If the decision is to go with francis and Marbs....you don't worry who is gonna be the point......they just go with it. I think with both of them you just let them do their thing and try to get guys in there that fit their games. Francis and Marbs on the same team is pretty crazy if you think about it. It's like having Iverson and Baron Davis on the same team. You simply can't lose but you got to cater to them.

The way I see it is very different that Larry see's it. Larry Brown is the X-factor in my book. What will Larry do to these guys?

Thing about a guy like Iverson.....Iverson will tell Larry to go **** himself and do what he wants. Fuck a practice.....the team should practice on how to fit around him. Which is what happened.......Larry cried every day about it but Iverson was right. Once things started clicking....Brown and Iverson became very close cuz what else would come of it? Either they would be close or one would be dead.

So whatever goes down.....it's all on Larry Brown.
