And you were one of the MANY on here that stomped all over Phil signing D-Will. I can't remember too many liking this move besides me and Nixluva.

Youre memory must be failing you. I was easily the first person on this board who suggested signing Derrick Williams. Man you never get anything right lol

I was the first to express interest in Derrick Williams back in 2013 when it became evident the team was going nowhere after the great 18-5 start. I felt even then Derrick Williams upside was worth trading Melo for if we got back a lottery pick or 2. Problem was my trade proposal wouldve involved shipping Melo and Lala to basketball Siberia in Minnesota but he didn't have the no trade Claus then. It would've led to a head start on rebuilding and the Bargani trade would've never happened. At the same time Phil may or may not have been interested in taking over the reigns. I think he still would've. He has his eyes on the team back when we signed Amare and traded for Melo. Which he referred to as clumsy. The fact that he even commented on the Knicks means he was hovering around until Irving Azoff & Dolan sealed the deal with $60mil.
Safe to say I was a happy camper when out of the blue we signed DW this offseason.

Yes I was quite happy when I heard we signed him. And even though I wanted him long before we did. I'm glad we got him after his growing pains. As Knick fans we get to see him at his full potential. 24 points and 7 rebounds in 21 minutes. Just wow. He's turning into the player that was coming out of Arizona and was drafted # 2 overall.. I have a feeling he's going to be with the Knicks a long time.

This team needed more aggressive players. This system doesn't work if NO ONE attacks and all you do is pass the ball. It's why it was so eye opening when Shved was aggressive last year. Phil kept saying that he needed more penetration and that it didn't have to necessarily be a guard who does it. He added some players that will attack the basket and tho DWill is the most successful so far, it's more than just him. Also the rebounding is better too. The added length is making a difference defensively. Phil has added guys who NATURALLY play hard and with energy. That is gonna be very important this season. The roster is full of guys that you don't have to whip to get them to go hard. When the team needs a pick me up they have guys who will do it.

We'll be able to resign Williams if he keeps this up all year. One thing Dolan will do is pay.

I heard that before. Back in 2012. I'm sure you all know the player I'm referring to

Things are different now. Phil won't let a good player he wants get away IMO. Especially if Fish likes the player. We saw that with LT. Fish likes the guy and he's back, even tho it seems like there were other options. Besides I can't imagine that DWill would want to leave a situation where he's happy and successful. Let's just hope he does so well that we have to have that discussion.

Well obviously this is about as pre mature as it gets. But I do think Dolan would spend money if this guy is 6th man of the year or close and we are good. The kid is 24. He may have his off nights and he might shoot a little too much but I think hes going to be really good(impact good) off the bench and as a spot starter. Enes Kanter through preseason was awesome as 6th man for Okc and played very well in game 1 Id assume he will be the guy to beat.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Dolan, but one thing I can NOT say about him is that he's cheap.

Jump on that bandwagon Briggs -- you are going out on the limb after game 1.

Who will it be after game #2 and #3?

That said -- yeah D-Will has been very good. Hope he keeps it up and stays healthy.

Didn't you at one time or another propose a trade idea with Melo and every other player in the NBA?..

The Knicks did a good job in almost every aspect. Im not getting ahead of myself but they have made up a lot of ground using ever facet of transaction. Well have to wait and see about using the 2 7ters with Calderon and Anthony--it may be too slow of a unit although I like what Shasha and KP did on D yest.

No strategically Minnesota because trying to be realistic I was combing through the league for a team with not only high draft picks but a player with potential upside to bridge the rebuilding gap while being realistic about What we get back

Long season ahead of us.

I was one of the skeptical ones about Williams- although I don't recall going crazy about it and usually said that Phil and Fisher must think they can get something from him, but I always chuckled to myself when some of you guys were crying about us giving him a $10M contract when we actually gave him less than $9M. I'm no advanced stat guy, but I know how to add.

Derrick Williams $4,400,000 $4,598,000

Fisher would have had some knowledge of Williams from his days as a player...I wonder how that factored into us picking him up?

You still see some forced passes and rushed shots, but he seems to have found ways to really take advantage of our offense, and when he's moving and cutting and getting free for some open midrange shots, he's been great so far, and we already knew what he could do in the open court.

Fits in well with our second unit which has quicker guards who allow Williams to take advantage of his speed and aggressiveness.

One down, at least 81 to go.

Draft bust vindicates Phil Jackson’s $10 million risk

I know its only $1M, but this is why this idiot drives me crazy.

Had KP weighing 190lbs, at one point, if I remember correctly, and I think he's gotten other things wrong at times. Opinions and spin are one thing...facts are facts because they are true.

2 for $10M comes across as much more than 2 for $8,998,000, though, and his job is to provoke.

New to the forum, but have been reading the great postings for some time.

Some great thoughts on Williams, who I admit I thought we overpaid for and was a bust. But the role Phil & Fish have for him here is perfect. He is playing safety, do not worry about the guys in the box, only focus on the ball. His play reminds me of several years ago when Nate Robinson was in Dantoni's dog house for several games and did not play and then Dantoni let him play in the Atlanta game and Nate scored 40 or something. All the frustration of not Nate not being able to play his game came out against the Hawks that night and he destroyed them. D-Will for years being labeled a bust and Phil believing in him has turned him loose with confidence and he is taking his frustration out on the opponent.

I expect good things, but let's check back in 10 or so games when he is listed on the other teams scouting report.

guns ... funny stuff :-)

so you wanted him, you loved shump and thought he was a star. You were dying for monroe (who had good moments last night) who I think is the absolute wrong type of player.

YOU THINK EWING WAS A BETTER OFFENSIVE PLAYER THAN BARKLEY!!

so you want to be right about DWil (who I think has still far from proven himself) ... I can live with that!

Edit: and btw, your trade proposal was terrible!

I hope you are/were right about Dwil ... that would make me very very happy

so here is what phil is thinking ....
Think the biggest addition to the team is Williams
