Im going to watch him more closely tonight. The biggest thing is does he have the feet to guard NBA 3's ?, If he cant and he cant hit the outside shot then playing next to Melo isnt going to work.

Playing next to Melo?

An undrafted rookie?

Wow....talking about expectations!

I have expectations to fill the Small forward spot with someone. I would of liked that to be a 1st round pick but that didnt work out. There is still a gigantic hole in the roster there that has to be filled.I guess with all these terrific options on the roster it would be crazy. Starting a 6'4' SF is much better way to play

CJ leslie has a ton of upside. If he can master a 15-17 foot shot. He will be great.
He can fly with the best of them.
Think of it this way, he's david lee's height with much greater leaping ability.

Kabongo missed a lot of playing time this year. He needs to be developed. Would be a good pickup for Summer League and see how he does.
But if not him, who at PG?

This was a good pickup. Leslie was projected as a top pick in the 2nd round. If he keeps his motivation on a high level he could be a contributor for us this year

So as far as youth movement goes for the Knicks...

C- AJ Matthews
PF- CJ Leslie
SF- Iman Shumpert (better at SG)
SG- Hardaway JR

Now... how about a much needed PG?

Trying to work out a deal to bring in BJ Mullens first.

Really? Is Mullens a free agent or are they looking at making a trade?

I don't think Carson came out. He was only a freshman I believe and elected to go back to school. Looking at maybe next year or beyond with that kid..

Kennedy is a good cheap option at 2G -- 6'6", decent skill-set.. Not bad...See this is what I'm talking about -- is Hardaway Jr. that much better than DJ Kennedy? Not really man, if at all. Then why draft Hardaway at 24? Why not grab a DJ Kennedy for SG/SF depth cheap (or one of the 10 or so BETTER options out there over Kennedy) and draft a PG or big man with potential at 24 instead? I really disagree with their overall draft strategy. To me, you don't draft comparable talent (or God forbid worse talent--let's see how Hardaway develops) at positions where you can get the same or better talent on the cheap in free agency. Doesn't make any sense to me at all. Go for gold -- draft players you can't get anywhere else..

Thats a tough defensive starting unit....There are plenty of 6'0 guards that can run the point. But bigs that are agile, and run like a deer are rare. Have to grab them first. The D league has plenty of PG to chose from, along with the free agent pool.

We have speed young legs and athletic ability with Shumpert Leslie and Hardaway. To be a player in this league--you must continue to stockpile assets you lose. Letting a team age without regard can put a team into a 5-10 year hole.

Have to push him right away to work with the dribble--hey in SL they can take turns bringing the ball up and focusing on playing more like a 3 and expanding his range. If you look at his shot--it does not look terrible-it wasnt utilized. Our SL team needs to focus on a very fast pace--let Hardaway and Leslie get 12-15+ shots each shots each per game. Id like to see if we can get some 30 point games out of each of them.

Well, everybody can't score 30.....And I hope thats not the plan, because you can turn into a black hole quick. I hope these are system guys, with iso skills if needed. But we need solid system role players who doesn't mind doing the dirty work that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. I think Hardaway Jr is that type of person. Eventually, you hope to get 1 allstar from these solid role players. And thats up to the individual drive and health of a player. I'm sure LA wasn't thinking Kobe would be a franchise player on draft day. We need to keep stock piling young talent and groom the high ceiling guys for long term potential. And get a little lucky, because thats really what it comes down to.

Here is CJ in pick up with more free flow--you can see a few things he was not used for at NC State.

Bringing the ball up court with the dribble
Using dribble drive to create
Passing
Jumpshooting--I think he takes 3 long range shots here and they all look smooth.
This guy could be a major major steal for us. I thought he was a sure fire 1st rounder and if he was developed as a hybrid 3--where he could also spend time as a PF or a dribble creator--that this man couldve been a top 5 pick. This is a 6-9 man with a 7-3 reach and nearly a 41 inch vertical leap with tremendous coordination. IMHO he was developed incorrectly as a college 4/ I also think you can use him on PG in the halfcourt set. Think about it hes agile 6-9 with long arms. He can create havoc at the top of a set with a PG.

Thats why he was signed.....Grund did a great job identifying him and locking him up. He has more skills than what was utilized in college. You can see it at the Pro Am league he was in, unless thats the clip you attached. I think THJ is the same way. He took a step back for the benefit of the team. And they made it to the finals. His next achievement is to learn how to use all of his gifts, while fitting into any system. But I agree....I like what I see from CJ....I think because he's a tweener, he got over looked. But I can see him playing SF or PF which fits a need and could be Amari's replacement after this season or during Amari's contract year....

Naw. What will happen is CJ gets a few big dunks, blows up in summer league, makes the team, shows his lack of understanding of the game during the regular season, gets benched, becomes the source of a whole bunch of threads from people asking why he doesn't get playing time, gets traded for second round pick, repeats the same thing with a new team. You can go here for an example of how Leslie's career will turn out: http://www.ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.asp?t=37754

I think Gruny has learned his lesson and will make sure to put a team option in his contracts.

Overall i'm pleased to see that Gruny is doing what he did last year in finding good talent outside of the draft. i like CJ. We've needed more athletic ability and it looks like Gruny realizes that and is making sure we don't have that problem again.
