"At the start of this process I was really excited to be in New York, I thought it wouldn't be too difficult to work something out, but now we're forced to start looking at different options with sign-and trades and stuff like that," Lee told ESPN.com. "I'm sure it's going to be something we're not expecting, it's going to be something that's very complicated. But my gut would be that it's going to be difficult at this point to get a long-term deal done with New York, that's my gut."

Well, if your gut keeps asking for 10-12 mill per year long term contract you don't have to be Miss Cleo to know your time in NY has run out.

Really, doesn't he see his value isn't that high? Delusional!

Good ridance then!

If we're just being so, so mean to poor lwittle Wee, then why hasnt some other team snatched him up? Got cats like Jarrett Jack getting deals before Lee. He needs to know his lane right now.

"Going forward I thought I could still be a big piece of the puzzle -- and it's not as though I'm looking at a max contract, or talking about either me OR LeBron.- oh really? well then, that means that you are being completely and undoubtebly reasonable, David.

I agree with everyone so far.

Crying about not being able to work something out...the same deal Charlie and Milsap got were on the table...I applaud Donnie for not Allan Houston awarding Lee.

I think its hilarious that Milsap signed an offer sheet but Lee didn't. Utah actually matched....so there is no fear for teams to give offer sheets expecting the Knicks to match.

Oh well....the Knicks are already currently log jamed at every position....

Boo hoo....

Rumor has it that the Bulls are the favorite to try and get Lee...Brad Miller, Snacks and Tyrus Thomas stick out with expirings....as well as Hinrich for PG....very interesting

damn, dog --- he really said that? That's some pure, uncut, bitch ass whining right there, straight up. Basically, what he is saying is: Feel sorry for me, I'm not asking for 20 milly a year like Lebron --- just 10. Why are the Knicks being so mean?!?!

Man, he's not a pimple on Lebron's ass. How could he use himself and Bron in the same sentence? Thats delusional.

Lee's acting weak as hell right now. I've been a Lee guy for the most part, but this kind of stuff has me questioning and his future as a player I want to root for.

I'm no big Lee supporter but looking at some of the jokers making 10, 12 million it's not completely ridiculous for Lee to ask for this amount. Eddy Curry is making 10 million dollars this season so I can't really hate on him for trying to get this type of money. The NBA is totally out of control with these contracts and it's unfortunate that David Lee is now getting railed against by Knick fans for trying to get what the market dictates.

“From our standpoint, I know we’ve been happy to work with those guys,” Lee said. “At this point, for whatever reason, it’s not working out.”

Asked if he has given up hope in his future with the Knicks, Lee said, “I don’t know if I’ve given up hope, but it’s been very, very frustrating, especially considering what I feel I mean to the franchise and all the work I’ve put in on and off the court, what I’ve established over the last four years. I guess I expected things to move along a lot quicker with the Knicks and it hasn’t.”

I'm supposed to overpay for Lee because someone else overpaid another guy? That makes no sense.

Besides, this is a totally different market then when those contracts were signed. Economic times aren't great and nobody has come close to meeting Lee's asking price. He is not deserving of the money he is looking for and should quit whining about since the rest of the league agrees.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Eddy Curry got his money in a different market. Again, if this is just a Knick thing, why is every other GM treating Lee like he's the girl at the party with Leprosy?

I have no issue with Lee "getting his money" but the market is dictating that he is obviously going to have to re-consider his demands. Instead of coming to grips with that, he's going to whine like a spoiled brat because the Knicks arent giving him exactly what he wants --- even though currently the market is saying he is not worth what he's asking!

We've got to deal in real world reality, not Lee and his greedy agent's wold.

And for him to start name dropping players he's not even in the same galaxy as...I dont know. I think he's got, what Orangefan would call, a losing brain. Apply a little pressure to him, and he starts pouting. Probably the same way in the locker room. Perhaps having him as a "team leader" has been more of a problem than we've thought?

The market has dictated a price and it isn't 10-12 mill. And even if some were given irresponsible deals before, it doesn't mean those mistakes have to be repeated, especially given the economic situation. Lee asking for that amount and giving up on NY because he is rather given a fair deal for both parties is really telling of how delusional him and his agent are.

We are willing to work something out with these guys, but it isn't happening. After all I've done for this team, I'd expect a little more gratitude. Also, I'm real upset about the way the guys on ultimateknicks.com are talking about me, and the way they're treating my pal King1. They are total ingrates and hatters, the lot of them

I think bitty has a point. I don't think Lee is necessarily being unreasonable and his stats match the price point. The problem is, he put up the stats on an awful team and the Knicks have a long term plan. Whether or not Lee is worth $10 million a year is debatable, but from Lee's agent's perspective, they are comparing Lee to other guys who are making in that ballpark, so bitty's point is valid.

I'm also happy to see that we haven't caved in and paid more than we should. Let's stop hating on Lee for no reason, though. This board has turned on Lee extremely fast, and really for no valid reason, IMHO.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Sorry to break it to you Lee but while you've been a nice and important player to a 33 win team, you aren't a franchise player nor a 10-12 mill a year.

At this point, I don't want him on the team on principle. (And for all the other legit basketball reasons laid out here ad nauseum by those who understand why Lee is not good for us right now).

Personally I'm looking forward to the day when this guy's no longer on my daily radar. Go be on someone else's team. This guy would barely register on NYC fans' radar if he was on Minny or Memphis or Portland. Lose the overdeveloped sense of entitlement Lee! GOODBYE.

It's like this...players with similar numbers in similar situations have gotten that 10-12m paycheck. I doubt if Lee truly believes he's worth that much. But he does believe that's what can be gotten; he believes, or his agent does, that the money is out there for a player that put up the numbers Lee did.

Let's not get angry at Lee and assume he is delusional-- it's just how the system works and he's playing it.
