RealGM:

The Boston Globe has reported that the agent for Minnesota swingman Gerald Green has asked Timberwolves' vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale and general manager Jim Stack to trade his client.

Green will make $1.4 million this year, and Minnesota opted to decline his option for next season.

He will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Personally, I would take on the additional 2 years of Mark Madsen's deal to get a trade done so that we can get Gerald. Right now, this organization has to take chances on guys like Gerald Green, someone who is a buy low with a high ceiling. The guy has displayed some very good things at times and at others he's looked like a 3rd year guard coming straight to the NBA from HighSchool. Green has a good stroke, he's very athletic, I just think he needs a good opportunity to get some play.

By the way Minnesota has already told Green that they will not resign him this summer, so he's definitely available.

As I said earlier, I would take Madsens (small but 2 years remaining on his contract) off the T'Wolves hands, as they don't have any use for him.

Fred Jones(expiring) + future 1st rounder for Gerald Green and Mark Madsen.

What do you think.

While I agree with you, Green hasn't performed like he should warrant a 1st round pick in return, but the fact still remains he's a young player with a ton upside so a 1st round pick at some point is going to have to be included.

We are doing this "take chances" thing for 8 years aleady.
May be it is time to stop and work up some plan?

I think you misunderstood what I was saying ark.

I'm not saying Green should be the franchise player, not even close. But what I am saying is that he's a player with a ton upside who is still barely over 20 and right now can be had for pretty cheap. Taking chances on these kinds of players is what I meant when I said chances. We have to find guys who are stuck behind players on the bench somewhere or a "diamond in the rough" as another thread states - Someone who will come cheap but could payoff big.

Hope that clears it up.

I would definitely take a shot at Green, but no way am I including a first round pick.

One of the main reasons Green hasn't blossomed yet (outside of being too young) is that he hans't been paired with a a legit pg. Green has the potential to be a terrific finisher. Just needs someone to set the table for him.

Fred Jones for Green straight up. Wouldn't go any higher than that unless we are talking about McCants.

I would pass on Green unless we could get him really cheap. I like Crawford as our SG. I would work on improving the 1, 3, and 5 positions, which are our biggest needs. If we could get him for maybe Morris, then I would consider it. But if Minny wants draft picks, forget about it. The fact of the matter is that if Green was that great, he would be getting more burn in Minny. It is not like this is his first year. This is his 3rd year in the league. Not saying he cannot become good, but at this point, you cannot give up 1st round picks for a guy that has not blossomed after 3 years. That is the same mistake we made with Curry.

I think everyone is focusing on the 1st round pick that I put in the deal. The point of thread was, should we go after him or not? Not beat up on nyk4ever because he included a protected 1st round pick.

I don't really think Green has all that much game- unlike say a similar prospect like QWoods even. I think he's the kind of player they may let walk...I'd take more of a chance on signing him for cheap.

Because of salary matching, trading for him wouldn't be that good of a value IMO.

No reason to give up anything for a guy that can't get minutes on the worst team in the league. If you want to do Jones thats fine but anything other than that is not needed.

exactly, if he can't get any time in Minny then how would he play here? They don't even want any piece of him. Why is that?

So because another team (and let's be real, the T'Wolves are far from the model franchise) isn't playing him, we shouldn't go after him based on the way another team handles him? He played pretty well last year for the Celtics.

Only way Minny sends Green our way is if we take on a long contract like Marko Jaric. I can see a Malik, Randolph Morris for Jaric and Green. If they say Employee #8 we say FU!

However good he may be, he'll suck once he gets to NY.
