I love Hodge and think he's going to be a solid NBA role player. A do it all kind of guy that finds himself in the starting lineup on a good team. He will do what Josh Howard does for the Mavs -- rebound the ball, create and dish, score around the basket, get out in transition, and play really solid defense.
However, I don't want to package both of our picks to get him. If we can somehow buy a mid first rounder I would love to do that to pick up either Hodge or Blatche. However, this draft is so deep that a very talented player is going to fall to 30. It's a numbers game -- there are too many projected first rounders and somebody is going to drop. Now, whether that be Blatche, Hodge, McCants (although unlikely now that he was invited to the Green Room), Taft, Diogu, Jack, Petro, etc...) somebody is going to fall. At 54 there are going to be some very solid players as well. Nate Robinson, Gilchrist, Badsen, Daniel Ewing, David Lee are all guys that can make very big impacts in the NBA.
Most drafts have 1 or 2 steals in the second round. Occassionally, a team will find an all star like Spree, Areanas, Redd. However, I really believe that this draft's second round will have produce 5 or 6 NBA starters and 1 or 2 all stars. Hopefully we can find some of those players but lets not dilute our chances by packaging 2 for 1 to move up when there are going to be so many talented guys that slip.
In my opinion an ideal draft would have us buying a mid first rounder and selecting
8. Granger 19. (from Memphis) Blatche or Bynum 30. Luther Head, Hodge 54. Badsen
We address perimeter defense. We get longer and more athletic at every position. We have guys that can step in and play now (Granger, Head) and we can groom Blatche for the future. Badsen could be a bust or he can turn into Bruce Bowen.
Sign Hunter to the MLE and that roster is very young and we make the playoffs due to the shotblocking and perimeter defense.
