What to do with Allan Houston?!?

Looks like the amnesty clause is here to stay and we are gonna cut Houston unless he retires. Houston is not going to lose his money which is fair. The one time offer is only going to save Dolan money. Its not going to help the knicks in anyway other than freeing up a roster spot. Either way our cap situation is not helped. What do fans here think management should do in the Allan Houston situation?
Keep him & take a chance on his recovery
release him (amnesty clause)
force retirement (not going to happen if he thinks he is healthy and wants to sign with another team)

I chose to release him because I just dont think he believes that he is done and I doubt he will retire.

exactly, he won't retire, so the only option is to use the clause & release him...saving $40 million isn't chump change...if he goes on to help another team, i wish him all the best...he's been a class guy since he's been here & helped us reach the finals in '99...if there's a guy i wish success to, it's Allan.

I love H20, its ashame to see whats happened to him. But I love the Knicks more and this is a business/team. We need to start winning - so they need to get rid of Allan.

I would tell Allan: Look, we admire you because of all you have done to this organization. You have been a good player to us and we appreciate that. But you have to understand that your body isn't going to let you play the way we would love you to play anymore. Because of this, we hope that, as an important player you have been to this franchise(I know you are loving this Silver), we would like you to go out like that by choosing retirement. Then, you could work on healing up your body and if somehow you got better, you can alwasy go the Jordan route and come back whenever you want to. We would hate to see you go out in any other way...

I don't think it really matters. Waiving Allan isn't going to help or hurt the team, besides clear a roster spot. This is one of those cases where we should be saying "Who gives a crap, it's Dolans money." b/c it's still on the salary cap. So basically, we still have like 60 mm in future salary for the next 2 years, given to players who aren't even with us. This is the New York Knicks for ya.

Either way, if this happens, Allan will still be my favorite player and I want like hell to succeed, just not at the expense of the Knicks.

Don't worry, I'm sure Houston would love to pick him up... he can join the cast of ex-Knicks in that organization

look, $40 millions is enough to resign Sweetney/Rizzy and other FAs that can help this lousy Knicks roster to get better.

The roster spot is incredibly valuable, considering the Knicks are currently in the business of developing prospects.

Allan Houston's spot on the IR could have been used on a number of players last year. The next Ben Wallace or Michael Redd might go undrafted on Tuesday, so we need to have space to snap 'em up.

Buy Houston's retirement... and offer him a position in the front office... maybe he and Starks could rejuvenate 3pt Wireless.

Yes. Help him make a graceful exit, and by saving the organization 40 million, he could come back if he gets healthy enough to contribute. Otherwise, as much as i love the guy, he MUST and WILL be released!

Him and Dolan are friendly, they aren't brothers, and it would take a miracle for Dolan to pass up on 40 million dollar savings, even if he does have more money than god.

"I'll remain fully committed to the city and the fans and the team," Houston said. "Whatever happens going forward I have no control over and will leave it in God's hands." Isiahis Allans God these days!

We can waive him and resign him for the vets minimum. Maybe that is the first choice, but if we are truely rebuilding, then lets move on.

I like Allan, but 40mil is a big number, and if he can play limited minutes, he would be more valuable to a contender.

Dido, the 40 mil is not clearing cap space, but is a one time credit towards not paying a lux tax (dollar for dollar)on his contract.

Look, for what it's worth, if Houston really cares about the Knicks, he should agree to play for free....

This doen't help us in no way shape or form, injuries has been a problem for this team since we stop making the plyoffs, why get rid of him now. If saving 40 million in taxes is the issue, then we are looking foward to another waisted seasson. Jc, steph, Q, and houston, would make us extemely deep as far as the bck court.

Houston has gotta go. It's been too long dealing with his softee "Ow, my knee!" sob stories. 40M off the lux tax? An open roster spot for someone with both the nuts AND the knees to step up to the challenge? This one's a no-brainer.

It's about damn time.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Some fans on this board are way to loyal to Houston and Kurt...I don't know what those two have done to deserve all this love. Last time I remember, they didn't help this city win a championship. As much love you guys have given Houston and Kurt, you have not showed the same love for Ewing.....

He'll just go down to Miami and get an easy 15ppg off the bench, he would be perfect in San Antonio if they didn't have Barry
