Penny + pick 8 + $3mm + Sweetney for Gasol and Jason Williams and pick 19

I keep hearing Gasol rumors. We know Memphis is getting killed in the $$$ department. I'm trying to reach for any remotely plausable scenario that would make sense.. thats the best I can do

A real bad deal for the Knicks. Gas is not worth that much. West would get an expiring contract, an earlier pick (11 spots), $3 million, a young player with a reasonable salary that could come off your books next season if you don't want to resign him or trade him.

I'm inclined to agree... I'm just trying to figure out how Isiah will use the Grizz and their $$$ problems to add more bad contacts here, this is the best I could come up with.

So thats one no

Penny or TT and # 8 for Gassol and 19 is good, but why in the world should we take Jay will of of their hands??? I don't know if you have noticed, but the Knicks are looking to go under the caps next season.

I really don't want us taking J Will.

its a waste of a player and I don't think we need him, and I don't like him for my team. I like him for Denver.

Of course I would do it, although I would like Sweetney to stay.

pretty similar to what I proposed a while back. Yeah, I'd do this, we're basically trading down from 8 to 19 to get Gasol. I'd rather keep Sweetney if possible, but in the end I'd definitely do this deal.

Marbury/Crawford
Crawford/Ariza
Q-Rich/Ariza
JYD, Malik, Mo
Gasol/Butler

You still have picks #19 and 30, the MLE, and TT's expiring contract

We'd have to ship off J Will, but yeah, like I mention on the other thread about this, Pau is 20 and 10, you have to make the trade if you can.

Or you play J Will 10 mpg at PG, 10 at SG and if he doesn't like it, too bad

If we're taking back both Gasol and J Will, we're saving them $ close to $100 mil (which should be enough to prevent them from going bankrupt) and giving them pick #8. I think they would make this deal even if we didn't throw in Sweetney. Maybe we can give them SA's pick next year or the conditional Phoenix pick instead.

Are they really gonna trade their best player a young skilled 7' for cap relief?

Taking on Jwill would probably be a requirement. There will still be good players around at 19. Simien perhaps, or Diogu, or Taft, CV, Warrick if he falls that far, could all play PF next to Gasol at C. Interesting idea but it's not happening.

If we're saving them that kind of money, why do we need to give them our 8 this year?

I don't really like this trade fishmike. We could use a player like Pau Gasol, but that's a poor starting lineup, b/c your pretty much gonna get beat at the first 3 positions, Gasol is soft on the defense and seems like a guy who needs to be motivated. I wouldn't give up all that for Gasol. I'd much rather just keep that #8 pick, let Penny expire as well as TT and pray to dear God that Isiah doesn't draft Frye and goes for the cheaper big guy, like Bynum or Blatche or this dude Ike Diogu (Who you mention a lot) or signs Steven Hunter or Dan Gadz.

not interested in Gasol, especially for the #8 pick...i think we can nab ourselves a better player in the long run by keeping it personally.

i'd rather do this:

- Penny or TT, Sweetney, the #30 & #54 picks & a future 1st rounder for Boozer & Harpring.
- take the best available C w/the #8 pick
- sign a backup C w/the MLE

C - lottery pick / MLE FA
PF - Boozer / Rose / Mo T
SF - Harpring / Ariza / JYD
SG - Q Rich / Crawford
PG - Marbury / ? (doesn't really matter since Craw will be logging minutes at both G positions)
