It used to be taken as a given that Karl Malone was the best PF in the history of the game, but this third championship for Duncan has to challenge that claim. Who do you think is the best PF ever?

I don't know that that was ever a given. Maybe he scored the most points, but I wouldn't say it was a given that he was the best. What do you mean by best?

Barkley could do more than him, Mchale was more skilled, KG is more talented, TD is a more skilled player, so what do you mean by the best?

Let's say "best" means that you're starting a team right now and you have zero players (so, you're completely starting from scratch) and your first selection must be a PF. Who, in their prime, would you select?

Add Kevin McHale to my roster, please.
We will NEVER win with Marbury as our cameo guy.

You all are insane....

If I had to start a team right now, TD would be the first I pick, KG second, McHale third...

In my opinin, my man Karl is not near as talented as KG/TD OR Mchale

It really depends on the type of team you are assembling. If you have a back to the basket center already, I would pick KG because he is the most versatile, he can pretty much play whatever role you want.

If you don't have back to the basket center I would pick TD, followed closely by KG, because KG does so many things offensively and defensively. In fact I might pick KG first, hes a shot blocker, passer, scorer, rebounder, and he can play multiple positions. McHale would be 3rd for me, his post and pivot was so crazy, it was uncanny.

You younger guys will definitely think this is crazy, but my all-time #1 PF is Bob Petit.

Either Kevin McHale or Tim Duncan.

Being a Knick fan, I hate to admit this but Herman Munster (AKA Kevin McHale) is the best PF to play the game. Dude can do anything in his prime. Score, rebound, defend. Unstoppable in the post.

I loved Kevin McHale.

Speaking of him, anyone remember what happened the year he was drafted? Kind of interesting given all the current debate on who to draft. Boston made probably the most lopsided deal ever to get the #3 (#1 for #3 plus Parish). People were screaming that Boston was INSANE because they could have had a player who was projected to be the greatest, most acrobatic ever. Remember who? Darrell Griffith, Dr. Dunkenstein (plus Parish had not been good at Golden St.). Well he didn't even go 1, he went 2nd behind JOE BARRY CARROL (those stooge Warriors), and Boston had the Chief and Frankenstein. Whoa!

I'm not asking this to be an azz, now, I really want to know,
cuz personally I just don't see it. Can a really supporter of
Tim Duncan REALLY convince me that he is one of the best of all
time? I just don't see it in his game. I mean he's a great guy,
dependable, but I'm never really all THAT impressed. Rarely see
him dominate a game, be unstoppable. Somebody convince me.

Barkley could dominate a game. KG, Karl Malone, too.
Why is everybody head over heels for Tim?

Because none of them have rings and Tim has 3 so far...

i think it's a good question.

Here's my answer - the guy does exactly everything you need to win. THat's it. He gets it done when it's needed to get done. Produces the win when you need it regardless of what kind of game he's had up to that point.

IMO it is the absolute #1 best quality to judge a player by and it cannot be measured by statistics.

I'm in one of my oldtimers moods today so I'm reminded of what Red Aeurbach used to say - He used to meet with every player on his team after the season to talk salary. If anyone brought up statistics he'd throw them out of his office in one of his ususal tirades. His quote - "Statistics are for losers." Red was all about keeping the needs of the team in mind and delivering wins.

Duncan's one of those guys who just delivers you the championships.

This is bullsh!t. By that measure, Horry is twice the player that Tim is. I want a real answer.

Which of those teams did Horry carry? It's quite different when you are the playaer. And Duncan's done it now with 2 totally different squads.
