we should really trade Penny to a team needing cap relief and let them use the option on Penny. Trade like Penny and a pick to Portland for Ratlif or something. Portland uses the option, saves the $15 milion yay.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

First, if you could release a player and take him off your cap, what's the point of a salary cap? All this does is save Dolan money. The Knicks payroll is a bottomless pit anyway so I doubt it would have made a difference, Dolan would keep spending regardless.

Secondly, if expiring contracts are such a great asset, why would the Knicks want to get rid of Houston for nothing when they can keep him for another year and use his $20+ mil expiring contract in a trade? Did Houston disrespect Isiah and miss his end of season meeting with him, ala Shandon Anderson?
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Dude open your eyes man....Houston is a detriment...with him on the roster he messes a lot of things up for us, psychologically and physically. Do you enjoy watching your $20 million man sitting on the bench for 82 games? what for?

I was reading about the Mavs and Michael Finley...

the issue with this waiving-thing is that you're not allowed to re-sign that same player for the duration of the contract.

I mean... it's highly unlikely Houston will play again if they do this to him, but that'd wipe out the scenario of him coming back again.

did you read what i posted? the Knicks stand to save themselves $40 million in luxury tax payments if they release Allan Houston...he'll still be on the cap, but they won't have to pay that luxury tax money on his contract...saving $40 million isn't chump change...of course this is something they'd be interested in.
