dido: please make ur thread titles a little more descriptive.
a clause that would give teams that pay the luxury tax the option of releasing one player and removing that player's salary from their luxury-tax number.
Its about freakin time.

Why? He is getting $40 million over the next 2 years! He will get over being released after seeing that money in his bank account.

He is from Europe so he gets more than $300, and I am sure he feels bad for Alan because he will be pushed out the door. I dont think its that bad at all. It will help the team cause the money comes off the cap. If its coming off the cap, this is a no-brainer.

Ok, ok, I know he already has got more money than anyone of us. But I really liked him as a player, in fact he was one of my favourite players. It's not about the money, I feel bad because I wanted him to play with the Knicks, even if it were 20 minutes pero game.
It doesn't matter to me how much money is he going to receive.
I understand the decision that has to be made, I'm just sad that I wont see Allan playing with the Knicks anymore.

I agree with you but the move does make sense. I like Allan and would have liked to see him retire as a Knick even if it meant being a bench player at 15 mpg.

I dont think you will see him play 20mpg either way. I think he is done. I dont think he can recover and play an entire season's worth of games even at 15-20mpg.

Bonn: You would never see Houston retire a Knick. If they cannot release him or force him into retirement, the first thing they will do in his last year of contract is trade it for a good player. I bet a $21 million expiring contract which is worth half your cap is very very valuable to other teams.

I can see why you guys are sad but Houston wont retire a Knick nor play at 20mpg. He would be very effective in that strictly jumpshooting kinda role but his knees hurt.

SO WHAT!!! ALL this does is save Dolan from paying an extra $40 mil in luxury tax. How does this make the Knicks a better team besides for not having to think about when Houston will be back and open up a roster spot? Big deal. We can keep Bruno Sundov now. Yay.

Houston's contract will still count against the cap.

Aren't you all sick and tired of all of Layden's products???? We don't need to have any body on the roster to remind us of the losing periods...

To build a winning team takes time...You have to have the right pieces around to bring the best out of the whole squad...Give Isiah time, he will get things done...For one thing, the guys that we have around know that they are subject to get move if they don't perform..

Do you need another reason? And trust me, you are not going to get a sure thing. A roster spot is enough for me.

This is good news for the Knicks organization financially... plus it'll open up another slot on our roster.

I'm not worried about Allan--- he'll be getting a lump sum of 40 million... what's the problem?

Think of it as doing him a favor and giving him options for his future.
After this, he'll be allowed to sign a veteran's minimum contract with the contender of his choice, maybe come off the bench and win a title.
Hey, if we're awesome, we can even invite him back on our own title run.

What but the money does come off our cap right?

If not then this is not that exciting. Having an extra roster spot is cool but who ever has that spot is never going to play!
