An article in the papers today indicates that the Dolan may spin the non cable assets off. There were no details but the possibility exists that they may let let the knicks rangers the sports channels and other channels go. I would guess that they see some problems with the sports channels when the mets leave and are throwing in some valuable assets to sweeten the pot.

How many here see that spin off as a bad thing for the knicks? May have to tighten the belt.

I doubt it. They are moving to make Cablevision private. I cant see how letting the Knicks go would benefit them. Heck... even if they lose cash its a write off, and I'm pretty sure they arent losing money.

I would like to see the team run but a normal GM like a normal team. Heck, we would still have a $$$ advantage where we could easily carry a $60-$70mm payroll and be among tops in the league.

Read my signature!!!

All of this years expiring contracts should just melt and then we can play with the contracts that are up when Houston and Mo Taylor are gone.

Dolan knows what profits he could make if the Knicks could start winning again. Not only that but the glory. He'll get countless interviews and he will get to ham it up for years. He won't give that up.

Its in the Wall Street Journal. Charles D gets the cable assets as private company; Knicks, Rangers, MSG and cable channels go into Rainbow Media- public company with our good buddy James D still in charge of our Knicks and able to continue to mess them up with his poor management skills.

Nothing really would appear to change, just the Dolans able to exert more control over the operation of the cable assets

usually companies split to unleash value in their stock prices for the investors...my company was contemplating a similar move before a real estate conglomerate came in & bought up the whole shabang.

my hope would be that Dolan sells off the Knicks & keeps MSG as part of his Cablevision assets...that would allow a private owner to come in & handle the team management while he can concentrate on cashing in on the use of the venue & broadcasts of the games...Dolan clearly knows nothing about putting together a championship calibre team.

Its the opposite move- cable assets are undervalued- this would be third move with a cable company going private.

that's what i thought i was referring to...a company splits off its assets because their present assets are undervalued as a whole...this helps to get more value for the investors because the split stocks are more apt to gain value after the move...same thing happened w/AT&T when they split off their wireless from their cable & long distance.

i'm not a stock expert so i'm not trying to talk outta my ass here...just relaying what's happened w/some stocks i've personally held & w/the company i was working at.

If Dolan sells the Knicks, which I highly doubt that happens, I'm having a big party at my house in which everyone here and at the zoneforums are invited. You have to bring your own beer, and I'll hire and DJ and get a new grill. Fishmike, you can bring Ron Jeremy and djsunyc can bring Jessica Alba.

Cablevision stock up 18% today!

Which makes it less likely that the bid as is will be accepted by the stockholders.

The Dolans, even though they don't own a majority of the stock, do have a majority control through a special class of super-voting stock- its funny how those big family run businesses always end up like that

If the Dolans were to put anything up for sale, some investors suggested that it would be the entertainment assets, not the cable systems. Some speculated that John C. Malone, the serial dealmaker who is the chairman of Liberty Media, would make a run for those assets. He recently resigned from Cablevision's board "to avoid any potential concerns that could arise from his being a director of the companies and Liberty Media," according to the company.

One thing was not up for debate yesterday: the Dolans will need to raise their bid if it is going to be approved by a special committee of the company's independent directors. Cablevision, with three million subscribers in the suburbs of New York, is considered to be one of the most valuable systems in the nation because it is in the No. 1 media market.

Analysts universally called the Dolans' offer simply an opening bid.

Are you like right next to Farmingdale?

20 minutes west of Farmingdale. I am on the north shore, near the Broadway Mall and 20 minutes from Roosevelt Field Mall.
