If Bynum and McCants are available when pick #30 rolls around, who would you take and why?

I take McCants because he has a guaranteed high floor. As well as a high ceiling. He is likely a souped-up Cuttino Mobley that perfectly fills out our backcourt. Bynum's floor is close to Tractor Traylor.
Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

I would take Bynum.

SG basically grow on trees in this league, especially undersized ones.

You only get a crack at a C only so often.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Bynum will go long long before pick #20 let alone #30 so I don't think this scenario is very likely. At 17 with that kind of body a team will take a flyer on him long before then. Let's face it, teams draft for potential just as much as they do for need.

Bynum at Eight.

That I agree with. Still, I am not inclined to waste a pick at this stage of rebuilding. None of us have scouted Bynum or McCants for that matter. But, each of you have had the opportunity to see a lot of McCants. He can put up 18 ppg consistently in the NBA. And his defensive potential is obvious.
Im not opposed to taking Bynum per se. But, we better do the ohomewrk on him and evaluate bust potential before we pass on potential starters in this league.

How can you say otherwise? His floor is very low. He hasn't dominated anywhere, so his floor is low.

I'd still take Bynum for obvious reasons. His ceiling is also higher than most players in the draft.

i was hoping you were'nt saying he would'nt be better than traylor. traylor has never met his expectations w/his weight problems, but i see bynum as an athletic 7footer and traylor's an overweight unathletic 6'8er.

Bynum could very well be a 7 foot traylor, whoch would be Jerome James. His bottom probably is Jerome James, and I dont mean that playoff version either.

Theres no way to tell, but I would definitely pick him.

Without a doubt, Bynum's floor is Tractor Traylor and even possibly lower. Or as Killa astutely pointed out, Jerome James. The fact is people fall in love with any creature remotely resembling Shaq. But, its a combination of size, coordination and quickness that makes Shaq dominant. Of those credentials, Bynum fills only one - and thats his Oliver Milleresque frame. The rest is unknown.
The obsession with "high-ceiling" players on this board is senseless unless that term is clarified. Bynum's ceiling depends on his reaction time, balance, and B-ball IQ - certainly a lot more than his sheer size. And its up to scouting to estimate that. Sure, the Bynum bandwagon is gaining a head of steam. 4 years down the road, I just hope fans aren't booing Tractor Bynum as he leads us to a 30 win season.
