I just got home and turned on ESPN and they said a 6 year deal was made for the collective bargaining agreement, but I missed basically all the details. I'll see what I can find.

This article really doesn't say much, but Stephen A Smith (When I was watching ESPN) said that "An agreement is immenent" and mentioned a 6 year deal. This is great news if he is right.

Would you rather there be a lockout threat every 3 or 4 years? BTW, if this is true, does anyone know what the details are? Is there going to be a supertax? Yada yada...

I wonder if a possible CBA would effect Isiah's drafting philosophy. Like the polished, work his ass off Channing Frye made the most sense in the event of a lockout, because you know he would keep working with Grover and stay in shape. And, now if an agreement is signed, and the Knicks potentially have the full summer to work with the guy, do they take a longer look at Bynum or Green or Webster? Just wondering...

If there's a super tax then Penny & TT are going to play next year for us and go away and save the Knicks more than $30 million.

Curry optimistic that sides close to tentative proposal

With a July 1 NBA lockout date looming, the president of the NBA Players' Association said Friday he's hopeful that owners and players will have a framework for a new six-year collective bargaining agreement in place by the weekend.

I don't think you need to worry about that. I can't imagine the players union every agreeing to the super tax that was posted earlier. Maybe they'd agree to something more gradual and reasonable like teams paying $1.1 or 1.2 for every dollar over a threshold they are.

Update on the labor deal, looks like the "super tax" is off the table.

that's not too surprising. I can't imagine the players' union agreeing to it in the form reported earlier

New bargaining agreement has an age minimum for draftable players. Player must be 19 years old to be drafted. No more Bynums agewise after this year. This must make the college coaches happy as they at least have these players for their freshman year in college.

Why would the players union care about this though? Isn't this all on the owners? But if not, I see what you mean. I don't see why any of the owners or players would want to be punished b/c of the NYKnicks.

Interesting thing involving the 6 yr deal... Under the current rules, players permanent injured cannot be taken off the books for 2 years. In the new deal, it's now 1 yr..

Teams in the NBA will be given a one-time option this summer to waive one player from it's roster and receive luxury tax relief..

Ex. Allan Houston can be waived this summer.. Knicks would still pay Allan's $$ and his salary counts against the cap but Knicks won't have to pay a luxury tax on his salary.. INTERESTING!!!

The players union cares, because a higher luxury tax means teams like the Knicks won't be able to go ridiculous and overspend, which means less overall $$$ spent on players. That's why the player's union made sure that clause wasn't in there.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Well I just heard Stern and Hunter on NBA TV. Key points in the new agreement:

1) New 19 yo age limit.
2) New two year Minor league.
3)Team is now allowed to match offer for player finishing rookie contract.
4) Guaranteed contracts dropped from 7 years to 6 years

and the biggie..

5) No more injured reserve. All 15 players can be active and playing. That takes care of quite a few things. Namely Stoudemire, Houston and Olowakandi being on the IR.

#8 - Bynum, #14 - Blatche, #30 - Julius Hodge, #54 - Stoudemire

Our Roster
C - Bynum/Butler/Olowakandi
PF - Sweetney/ Rose/Blatche/Butler
SF - Ariza/Wally/JYD/Tiny Tim
SG - Wally/Crawford/Hodge/Stoudemire
PG - Marbury / Hodge/Crawford
Buyout Penny and all 15 play. Send Kurt and Mo to Minny for Wally and #14
