Figure the big experiment in Utah with Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur is over. If Utah doesn't try to move up to get one of the point guards, the word is that the team likes Spanish power forward Fran Vazquez. If Utah is inclined to move Boozer, the Knicks and one of their expiring contracts are a possibility. The Knicks always are looking for more talent and willing to take the extra years. They also have the No. 8 pick, so they'd have a chance to upgrade as well.

Hopefully he's saying the knicks will KEEP the 8th pick.
Not sure what to make of this, but figured I'd throw it out there nonetheless.

The rumor going around is:

Tim Thomas
8th pick

for

Carlos Boozer
6th pick

saves the Jazz $50 million or so, they drop two spots in the draft, knowing they can't get Deron Williams anyway, hoping Felton is there.

Knicks take on $50 million for a 6'7" PF, what else is new, apparently for the luxury of moving up two spots. To take...who? Wright? Granger? Not sure.

But this is a dime a dozen rumor. No substance to these at this point, because the Knicks can't trade their pick. They can draft a player and then trade him immediately afterwards - like the Nene trade. So, any trade would have to be sent to the league for approval on draft night, after the Knicks pick.

dont you love how any scenario involving a team dumping a player with a huge contract thats under performing involves the Knicks?

Boozer is 6'9".

Jazz list him as 6'8". He's 6'8" the way Sweetney is 6'8".

I'd love this. We get a very good player AND move up in the draft. Then you obviously have to pull off a couple of Weatherspoon for Norris type of deals to balance out the roster.
Boozer's a good player. The Jazz just can't afford to pay him that kind of money unless he's going to be better than 20/10
I'd love to see the Knicks use their expiring contracts to add Boozer and Gasol. (Realistically, Gasol would be something like TT plus the lottery pick plus pick #30 for pick #19).

I don't think Boozer is too much of an upgrade from Sweetney. More athletic, sure. but look at their per 48 minutes stats. almost identical. I was very unimpressed by Boozer this year. I think that contract would be awful...

Boozer is also a solid 270 lbs. .....as opposed to the way Sweetney achieves that weight.

Also, Sweetney is 6'8" the way Othella Harrington is 6'8"....in other words, not even close.

I'm not too much of a fan of per48 stats. I don't think Sweetney could last 30 mpg without a decline in his performance because of his weight. Sweetney also gives up a far higher FG%. Boozer played injured this year. Last year, he averaged over 11 RPG. He's a lot quicker than Sweetney and he has a better post game. There's no reason to make this a Sweetney vs. Boozer thread, though. I'd gladly keep both players and trade Kurt and JYD. Then you have 4 PFs like we had at the start of last season (which no one complained about back then). Sweetney can get minutes off the bench if he earns them; a good start would be getting in shape.

You're right that they have very different bodies. Boozer's a chiseled 270 with probably 9% body fat. Sweetney's a heavy 270 with probably 18% body fat.

let's not rebuild by taking on enormous contracts for players we don't particularly need. i'm hoping this rumor is just what it sounds like- some random writer's speculation.

yeah, Boozer is definitely the better player. But with the way our cap is, is he really $50 million better? I don't know. I feel like we have more pressing needs than another undersized PF.

For us to trade for Boozer, Utah would have to eat one of our shorter bad contracts (Mo T and Kurt), also, they would have had to trade one of their first round picks to us..

good point, he is not 50 million better if we picked up frye or bynum. Basically a hungrier version of him.

When is the effing draft...I'm losing my mind.

THey were right about these finals, I fell asleep at halftime.

Again, I much rather have Okur. He had a pretty good season with Detroit when he was with them...shoots the ball pretty well, and rebounds well also.

I am tired of bailing teams out of their mistakes, no one bails us out of our messes. Boozer and the Jazz stuck it to the cavs, now the jazz want to dump the Boozer experiment, I say let Utah keep him, and eat that 50 mil...

TT + KT for Boozer + Snyder.

Now there's a deal that gets the Jazz out of a bad salary, gives them some value & compensates the Knicks a little more for the $50mm relief the Jazz get.

this is where the mo taylor trade makes no sense.

now I would consider this trade, why the f not? i mean we move up in the draft and give up TT for Boozer?

but the problem is we have so many PF's, we have PFs up the ying yang

nevertheless I think isiah is going to try to use those expiring contracts and maybe Boozer is the best player they can get, i mean it truly is plausible.

Getting Granger and Boozer would be on paper an upgrade in talent. We can talk about what Mike might do over 30 minutes or Taylor or Malik, but Boozer has already proven it. He is a tad over rated but much more of a rugged player than a Rahim who is also a 20-10 player
Boozer was a beast in the east, I would do this trade, but I would also look into moving malik and Sweetney for a C then--maybe a S+T with Washington for Kwame Brown?

Actually, having all of the PFs could perhaps come handy in this situation...They want to get rid of Boozyyy and Ok-easy, but no one in their right minds really want to go to Utah...Have you ever been there? that place is a dump. Trade Kurt, Penny or TT and Sweetney, for Okur and Boozer together, I can almost guaranty you that Utah will bite....
