okay, it's been mentioned SEVERAL times that Bogut schooled Frye in their one on one matchup this year. And, I'm sorry, but it's not true! Here are their lines for the game:

Bogut: 36 min- 20pts (8-10fg, 2-2ft), 10reb, 0 blocks, 3 asst, 4pf, 6 turnovers

Frye: 28 min - 19pts (7-12fg, 4-4ft), 9 reb, 3 blocks, 2 asst, 4pf, 1 turnover

Final score: Arizona 67, Utah 62

Frye scored at will on Bogut in the first half, Bogut could not stop him, Frye got into foul trouble, had to sit, Bogut started to score. But in the second half, Frye scored more and drew a key offensive foul on Bogut. Frye blocked more shots and was just as effective as Bogut in terms of pts and rebs. Also, Bogut turned the ball over SIX TIMES. So, Bogut may have been able to push Frye around, but he got called for a key offensive foul while doing so. Also, Bogut's supposed physical dominance did not lead to a significant edge in points, rebounds or ANY blocks. Frye had three blocks and played solid D, holding Bogut below his averages in all categories. And, importantly, Frye got the win.

Now, I'm not saying Frye has higher upside than Bogut, but CLEARLY, he can hold his own against Bogut and then some. This kid can play.

Well anyway these college matchups are hard to gauge anyway. I remember watching DUKE and LSU play around 92 when Shaq and Laetner went head to head and it was a huge thing. Laetner outplayed Shaq in eevery aspect of the game. it was a good game and showcased laetners skills and Shaq's weaknesses. Fast-foward and what is it that we can gather from that game? Nothing at all.

REALLY????????
WOW!!!

But Frye sounds like a solid pick nonetheless. Everyone is sold on the remote possibility that a 17 year old is gonna be a monster and I am seeing it for exactly what it is, a remote possibility. Frye can come in and help us, and he can make an impact on both ends of the court, I couldn't be mad at that.

but so could drafting a potential star like wright, granger, webster or graham and trading for or signing a center that can give you a lot more than the 10 & 8, 12 & 8 at best Frye is going to give you. Taking frye as high is 8 is ridiculous!

When did Kool-Aid start making a Channing Frye flavor?

Yuck.

I dont think taking him at 8 is ridiculous, but I do think those other players would be good selections as well. As far as signing a center that can give you alot more than 10 & 8 could you name 2 for me? Lets see theres Yao, Shaq, Big Z, Brad Miller, and out of those 3 only one is available.

So now outplaying someone isn't as important as what? the hype surrounding the player? Frye is a mobile, active, athletic, strong center. He went toe to toe with the best center in the draft - and came away with the W and more blocks and fewer turnovers.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm to get interested in the idea of starting Ariza and Frye next year, we'd be so much longer and more active on D.

And for people obsessed with numbers, look at what Rasheed Wallace averages for Detroit. 13ppg and 7rpg last year and 14ppg and 8rpg this year, yet he's been the difference maker that took them from a very good team to a two-time finalist. Sometimes it's not ALL about the numbers, it's about how a player FITS. Channing Frye fits this team. He fits this style of play Isiah has been preaching, so does Ariza, so does Crawford, so does Marbury. This team has some talent, but it will never add up until the talent all complements each other. Frye complements the other pieces we have on this team.

this is misleading. i watched that game and there is a big difference on how people score their points. Bogut was able to push Frye right under the basket, getting foul calls and multiple offensive fouls both ways comapred to frye who scored with the jumper 2-3 put backs and only a couple of low post scores compared to Bogut who scored every one at point blank range and couldve had many more. Simply frye couldnt come close to stopping him, although he did swat his shot a couple of times. But that will happen when the offensive player is attacking the whole time+time again.
Two different players

Two different players

No doubt. But, clearly, Frye can be effective. And drawing offensive fouls and blocking shots are two good ways to stop a more physical player. But really, how many centers are as big as Bogut in the league? Maybe five?

I think what it comes down to is Bogut is capable of being a top 5 center in the league soon and Frye top 10. That's not too bad if we can get a potential top 10 center.
