Stole this from Real GM and thought it made sense.

Eddie Jones expires with H20. He plugs a hole for us, he can shoot and defend at the 2.
NY trades:
Tim Thomas
54th pick

NY recieves:
Eddie Jones
29th pick

Miami trades:
Eddie Jones
29th pick

Miami recieves:
Tim Thomas
54th pick

Why for NY?
They get defensive SG who can hit the 3 and move up to get another pick in the first round. His contract expire one year after TT which is same year as Houstons. This also frees up minutes in the frontcourt by switching JYD to a full time backup SF and Ariza get's starting minutes.

New lineup:
Marbury / Crawford
Jones / Crawford
Ariza / JYD
Sweetney / Rose
KT / Taylor

Why for Miami?
They get more size in the frontcourt and get a more all around player in TT. Also they get money to play with in free agency a year earlier (since re-signing Shaq would take up the whole cap space). [Not to mention Shaq and TT are friends]

New lineup:
Damon Jones / Kenyon Dooling
Dwayne Wade / Shandon Anderson
Tim Thomas / Rasual Butler
Udonis Haslem / Alonzo Mourning
Shaq /Michael Doleac

Not wild about Eddie, but I'd do this one. Our cap is totally blown until H20 comes off, so timing them together is a decent idea, and I think Nate will be there at 29.

29????? I don't know, but I can see where you are going with that....Jones and Shaq are friends, and I don't believe that he will be traded...With the 29th pick, we could possibly combine it with the 30th to move up in the draft...Perhaps to get Memphis #19

eddie jones=role player

I'd rather have TT expire than add a player at 29th pick.

different story if its Jalen Rose and toronto's 2nd pick- that's at least mid round.

Yeah Riley is hot for TT and could have used him during that Piston series. Like I mentioned before, this trade would help out both franchises but is unlikey to happen because of past gripes.

Its decent though and clearly we could package the picks to move up to the late teens early 20's and snatch Petro, Bynum, Blatche, Warrick or whoever is there.

Eddie Jones is done. I think we should get more in that deal.

A more reasonable deal is the Rose one. We need to get a player who's better not worse than TT for his expiring contract. If we're getting a player comparable in effectiveness to TT, we should get at least a pick around 17. If we're giving up TT's expiring contract for a bad contract and a player worse than he is like Eddie Jones, we better be getting at least a late lottery pick.

How many more years does Jones have on his contract compared to Rose. Didn't the Pacers give Rose his contract pre-lock out.

Rose is a better baller than Jones, but is he a better basketball player for a (hopefully!) veteran coach?

I don't have time to check right now but I think Rose has one less year than Jones and he's also a better player than Jones
