The NBA needs to emulate the NFL some. I am sorry, but it is absurd to pay a guy like Houston $20 millions just to sit around and do nothing...Funny thing is that he is not the only one doing that. We have a class of not too ready players that are about to join the league, and all of them will received some what of a guaranty contract just to sit and warm up the bench. I know that the owners make enough money to support such behavior, but us as fans, especially the diehard fans like myself and many others are the one suffering. Mr. Stern and the players union need to understand that the game and the fans suffer because of those crazy rules that they have in the books.

I agree, good point. But what is the solution? The players union is too strong and there would certainly be a work stoppage if too much was pulled from the players.
Look at hockey, for instance. Would you be in favor of using scab players so that the season wouldn't have been lost?
We will NEVER win with Marbury as our cameo guy.

at this point, scab players would be better than the current knicks squad...remember, the redskins won two superbowls strictly because of the NFL strike. (yeah, that's right skin fans, I said it!)

Dude! for a minute, I thought you were Mike Baisdon...........But, I do agree with you. I still believe that something has to be done to correct the actual system. It is inconceivable to have players like Houston who is earning such a big paycheck to sit out as many games as he did and still get paid. The funny thing is that his presence alone doesn't warrant the team to move forward even when he is not able to perform. That to me is absurd.

Its like kick allan houstan day.

That contract was created by the owner. The knicks mess is nothing but their own shortsided greed. Lots of teams are very successful without doing stupid contracts.

Dolan needs protection from his asinine self!

Give free agents upfront money, give a certain guarantee and the rest can be cut.

Good Idea, I think I have read this before!

Look here, you are taking this argument out of context...Houston's name was used as an example, I could have just easily used Terrell Brandon as the example, but he is no longer in the league, Grant hill was very productive last season, Webb had a pretty good season also...Houston????? what has he done for us lately?????

while i agree that it's absurd for players to get paid to do absolutely nothing... (bad case because allan houston and terrell brandon were injured)...i also tend to flip the coin over on the other side...

What about the owners and the franchises who get paid by the NBA licenses, TV contracts, logo revenue and their teams have never produced a winning season in years? What about the franchises that take home pay from the playoff games and what not and their teams NEVER go to the playoffs?

if you are going to be fair then be fair.
