With our picks, I’d be happy with:

#8 - Splitter, Granger, Bynum (if he proves that he’s worth it)

#30 - Mickaël Gelabale / Ryam Gomes / Julius Hodge / Nate Robinson / Tiras Wade

#53 – Jawad Williams / Lucas Tischer / Travis Diener / Deji Akindale / Daniel Ewing

Isiah must go for players who are tough, long, and athletic with superior defensive skills and good character/work ethic. And almost everyone here (except for Bynum who I don’t know much about) seems to fit the bill.

What do you think? Any other players of this type we could go after who are realistically in our range?

It’s obvious that we have to draft the BPA available with our 3 picks, but we do need a C. And while we could look for one in the FA market, I’d prefer that we have our own project talent developing while being part of the rotation whenever possible. I’d like to see this team build up through the draft instead of taking short cuts. So I’m praying that Isiah does not trade the picks for vets like A. Walker, Finley, Ilgauskas, Rose, Pierce, Odom & B.Grant package, etc, etc. That would be enough to make me give up on this team. I just hope that the letter from Steve Mills to next season’s season ticket holders truly reflects the direction the team is taking.

At the 8th pick, I’m torn between Splitter and Granger. As for Bynum, we have to see how he fares in his workout.

We need a big, and I think Splitter is a solid candidate for us to pick at 8. I wasn’t a fan of Tiago until recently, but after seeing a few videotapes of his games and catching up on his scouting reports, I came away impressed with his size / physique / skills / maturity / competitiveness. Many draft boards and scouts say that he is more of a defensive player now, but I’m sure he could become a heck of an enforcer down low with good coaching and more experience. That alone is something we could use. He seems to bring fire to the team whenever he steps on the court with his intensity. He’s got plenty of experience playing in Spain, World Championship, etc, so he is not an unproven project. The only concern is the buyout issue with his current club, but I say Isiah should consider him even if he has to stay in Spain for another year.

Marbury / A. Daniels (via FA)
Craw / A. Daniels / Gelabale?
TT / Ariza / JYD
Taylor / Sweetney /
KT / Rose / Splitter

IR – Penny, Butler, Deji Akindale?
Houston retires

Then there is Granger...

Yes, he’s not a big, but I love his game!!! He plays big and he’s smart. He’s got an all-around game with great offensive & defensive skills. I only saw a couple of his games, and I don’t think he’ll be a superstar but I’m sure he could contribute right away, and will be a great part of any team. If we get Granger instead of a big man, we could move Ariza to 2 to back up Crawford. Granger can play behind TT until he is ready to take over, and TT can be shipped before the trade deadline IF we can get someone decent; otherwise let his contract expire. In this scenario, we’d have to look for a C from FA market. Let’s say we get Gadzuric or Hunter as our starting C, our lineup could look like:

Marbury / Nate Robinson?
Craw / Ariza
TT / Granger / JYD
KT / Sweetney /
Gadzuric or Hunter (via FA) / Taylor / Rose

IR – Penny, Butler, Pops Mensah-Bonsu?
Houston retires

We are not a good team, why in the world must we draft a player that is not going to be here to contribute????

That could be said of some of the 6'10" greater players you want the Knicks to draft as well.

Hell,,,,you guys don't really want the Knicks to succeed....judging by what has been said around here, it appears to me that most of you are rooting for the Knicks to remain the laughing stock of the East and the NBA..

I can't wait for this dumb draft to happen. I am sick and tired of all of the crazy trade or draft proposals that I am hearing on this board...I can't wait. Isiah is making it even harder on guys like me with his lack of motivation to hire a stupid coach....If it is going to be Herb, for the grace of God, please sufficate us with that bad news....

If some of the scouts are correct and if Splitter could become a stud C in the future, I for one don't care if we had to wait for a yr before he comes over here. Look at some of the Euros drafted by NBA teams who are still playing in Europe getting vluable playing time and experience (like Luis Scola drafted by Spurs in 2002 or Delfino who spent a yr in Europe before joining the Pistons). What hurt this team in the past years since the end of Ewing days is the same shortsighted thinking like yours. We need to think long term with this draft. Even if we were lucky enough to draft Marvin or Bogut, that doesn't mean that we'll be a championship caliber team. So, we need to make sure that there is a pipeline of talented youth that will lay the foundation of this team for the next 10 yrs. That is the priority.
