watching zo block shots left and right, that's something we desperately need so for those that know about bynum, what is his shot blocking ability? i know frye can block shots.

as the days go by, it does look like frye is our pick...

Frye can definitely block shots. He's got long arms and is athletic. But, he's pretty thinly built so he doesn't really "own" the paint. From what I've read Bynum is not a huge shotblocker but intimidates people away from the paint with his size and uses his strength to hold up against the post. Different kind of defenders I guess.

Blatche will be the best shot blocker among the centers in this draft. He's got long arms and he's athletic. As pointed out Bymum's game is more power. Frye will be a pretty good shot blocker, but may turn out to be soft.

I want Bynum. partially on faith, because of his upside.

Frye is the best shotblocker in the draft. Splitter MIGHT develop into a better one, but I honestly haven't seen enough of him. Blatche is more of a Bosh-type forward and in a few years MIGHT be the better player, but that's impossibly hard to forecast.

Can't get ahead of ourselves here. Bynum is 17 years old and Frye just graduated college. I think Bynum will ultimately be a better defensive player, but he would benefit greatly from going to school. Just imagine if Emeka tried to come out as a HS player--he wasnt even a top 100 rated HS player! If Bynum shows up in great shape and plays at a very high level comensurate with his age in these upcoming workouts, then there is NO doubt about it, he will be coming to the nBA and then you have to do your job projecting where he will go. I believe in Jim Calhoun, he doesnt hype players and hes a serious judge of talent. He's VERY high on Bynum, and to show you how high he thinks of him look at the Huskies--they are national champion contenders with OR without Bynum next year, but JC has all but penciled Bynum in to start next to Josh Boone for big minutes--AHEAD of a very talented, possible number 1 pick in Hilton Armstrong. So we have to sit back and wait before we make wild prognastications. the best thing for the kid is to play medicore to bad so he can go to school. But if he comes in and blows people away, he isnt going to school and I hope he is a Knick.

You want a shot blocker? Then we should draft Moussa Badiane for the 54th pck.

Frye is a very good shot blocker, however non-physical or soft his game is.

Another guy to throw into the 2nd round mix - Jared Homan at 6'10" 250.

In a conference full of rugged big men, players like Oklahoma’s Kevin Bookout and Texas’ Brad Buckman might be more well known, but Homan might have been the best of the bunch this past season.

Homan was a roleplayer as a freshman, averaging just 3.6 points and 3.4 rebounds in just 16.6 minutes per game. His role increased over the next two seasons, with his scoring increasing to 11.1 points per game by his junior year.

He averaged nearly 13.6 points and 8.7 rebounds as a senior, to go along with 2.1 blocks per game.

Homan ended his career on a high note, with two impressive games in the NCAA tournament. He followed up a 14 point, 13 rebound, 7 block performance against Minnesota with 19 points and 20 boards against Sean May and North Carolina.

Homan was then invited to the 2005 Portsmouth Invitational where he was very impressive, helping his team to a 2nd place finish, and making DraftCity’s all-tournament team. He averaged 16.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in 3 games at the tourney.

deng gai on fairfield? i haven't seen him, but i've seen a lot of the competition he plays against. 6'9 guys look like giants in most of those games, the only pro i've seen come out of those teams is smush parker... he can probably be had as a FA invite to summer league or whatever.

good players come from every league. now i didnt say deng gai was a candidate for a draft pick, i said he was the best shotblocker eligible to be drafted. off the top of my head, i think guys like rik smits calvin murphy came out of that league, not bad players

i like watching MAAC games, every so often there's a standout player, but relying on stats to say he's a great shotblocker is misleading since he's going up against three guard, 6'4 PF lineups. if you've seen him play i'll take your word he has good instincts, skills, athleticism, all that, not just inflated stats. definitely an intriguing player in any case.

You are right about Calhoun, Briggs. This guy has a nose for talent. No one even thought about Boone, Mike Jarvis just pass over him. If Calhoun is high on Bynum that should carry alot of weight. I would like to come away from this draft with a Bynum and Petro. Athletic version of the Twin Towers. It Taft was ever to live up to his potential. It would be great to draft him and a guy like Bynum.

yeah 6-9 is like 7-2 in their division, so its hard to really tell unless you are watching him in action. To a lesser degree europe is the same, there aren't as many bigs there and alot of the blocks i caught on tape from Splitter were decent blocks on much shorter players.

Look here, I didn't know much about this kid, but after what I have read about him, we have no choice but to pick this dude....He is a Tim Duncan type of player withouth the offensive arsenal of Timmy...He can block shots, and most of all, he has 4 years of college under his belt. This kid is ready to contribute right away versus Bynum who we don't know much about. I am not saying not to draft Bynum, but I would only draft him if Frye is not on the board...
