After reading everything there is to read about every Big Man available in this draft, I am becoming more and more comfortable with the idea of drafting the best player available at #8. The dropoff from Bogut to the next best big is large. For the most part I trust Isiah's ability to evaluate talent, and I would be slow to criticize the player he picked, unless it was a pg.

If he decides that a SF or SG is going to be a star, whereas these bigs are going to be role players for their careers, it would be in the best interest of the team to draft the best player available and acquire a big man through trades and FA signing.

For Instance, if I am Atlanta, I draft Marvin Williams and trade whatever bigman he replaces on the roster, if he proves to be better than them. If Marvin is supposed to be the best athelete in the draft , and he also has some polish to his offensive game, I would draft him regardless of who was on my team already. If nothing else, someone becomes expendable and becomes a valuable trade asset.

If I'm Milwaukee, I draft Bogut and work out a S & T with Gadzuric to get another good piece in another area. That is one way you get to upgrade your talent. You have replaced a good piece with a better piece so instead of trading a bad piece, you are trading a good, but no longer useful piece, for a good piece you can use.

At the same time, I would like for him to get another pick in the draft so that at least we can get our hands on one of these big guys JUST IN CASE, they have the potential to be a star or very good player.

My two cents. I just want this draft to hurry up and happen and I wish I had access to the tapes of players that GM's have, I would be able to evaluate these players better. The waiting is killing me!!!!

Very good post.

However i have a different view. Sure if we had Marvin Williams available. Maybe if we had Gerald Green or Chris Paul.

There's no one else I can see so far who I want more than going with the best big. At 8 I'd take whoever grades out best among Petro, Blatche, Bynum, Andreezy, Frye, Splitter, Vasquez. Gotta gotta gotta go big at 8.

I'm LOVING the anticipation

Honestly I'd be happy with those guys too. All I'm saying is if he sees a guy who is going to be the next Ray Allen or Paul Pierce, and every big in the draft is no better than the next Nazzy Mohammed, I would say take the Swingman. You can always get a big guy of Nazzy's caliber from the CBA, NBDL, free agency or from West 4th street!

My thing is, if you think the big can be a special player, Take him because we need him; but don't overlook a star swingman for a run of the mill Big. Thats all I'm saying.

I agree. You have to take the best available that is head-and-shoulder better than the rest. If a big and a small grades are the same then you go big. You collect assets and go from there.

Hey, the best player available might be Splitter. Checl out the new scouting report in Draftcity. They are raving over him. I like Dracftcity reports because they actuallt try to see the players in action before making judgements.

Splitter is intriguing, but everything I've heard makes it seem like he'll wait til next year. Maybe he has a great workout and gets a promise...

I agree, but i dont think there is a Ray Allen in this draft. Antoine Wright had a great year last year after two really sub par years, but this is still a lottery talent and would not be opposed to taking him. HOWEVER, I have to believe that ONE of these 7 footers, just one out of Frye Bynum Petro Splitter will come to the forefront. We will know a lot more about Bynum this weekend, Petro also next week and even Martynas will come in and workout now supposedly. Im keeping an open mind until I have all the facts.
