Williams and KT have the same length deal. JW makes slightly more $$$, and I think that 19 pick is good enough to get a guy that may slip in a Warrick, Petro, Splitter, Blatch, Bynam, Taft or Randolph Morris. We need a backup PG and the team has played well when Marbury slides to 2 at times. Worst case scenario is we just work on drafting well at that spot and look to later move JW who I think has good value around the league, regardless of a poor playoff showing.

I think this draft is deep enough to take a shot at adding another pick in this range. I do think 19 is MUCH better than 24 from Houston (see KT for Spoon threads) as if the above guys slip it will be to this range. Those 5 spots will make a big deal and with the Memphis deal we get back a player who could help us. With Spoon we are just looking to eat his $10mm and thats pretty lame for a #24 pick. Isiah can even pull the "exciting" card.

do you think Memphis would look to deal Jason Williams for KT? and a pick? I think they've got enough bodies up front.

That would be an acceptable deal. I wouldn't give up KT for the 24th pick.

well it looks like they are about to lose Stro Swift, and Wright is in his walk year. We know they are soured on JW an they are better in the half court anyway. I think it accomplishes something for both teams. If they dont like it fine, but rethinking the Spoon for KT deal just to get #24 is a very bad trade for us. Thats trading a good double double player thats skilled and has a reasonable deal for a $12mm waste that we will end up releasing for pick 24. I'm going to renig on that one if I may.

I think Jason Williams is too good to be a back up to someone like Marbury- so he would need to find a different home- perhaps Dallas wouldn't mind him in lieu of Jason Terry.

is it? Well great minds think alike. I guess you like MY idea then no?

I dont think JW thinks of himself as a backup but he also cant stay healthy playing starters minutes. He's a good enough shooter to play in a 3 guard line up with great playmaking skills. No reason he couldnt get 20-25 minutes a game next year.

If he's playing great he will be a commodity. Maybe then you move him for a big or an expiring deal and a pick.

Lol....it sure is.

This is definately a trade I'd do like I said in TMS' thread.
Especially with my Boozer trade idea.

i'm not actually crazy about toblerone's game, but i want that #19 pick & would love to get KT out of town in order to open up more of an opportunity for this team to take on a more athletic style of game...at least J. Will can push the ball upcourt & would fit into a run & gun style like Isiah's been talking about since he got here.

he can shoot also... maybe on the streaky side but when teams throw a zone at us it all comes to grinding halt. JW is fearless and has some balls. Now thats been good and bad for him at different times.

JWill could play a good backup point. He may not want to do it, but honestly I don't care...he'll have to do it.

The more important thing is that 19. I agree that Blatche, Petro, Taft, Morris might be there, and I'd be ecstatic to come away with one of those guys.

I'd like to see the Knicks trade down from 8 to 19 to grab Pau Gasol (and take J Will if we have to). If Memphis truly doesn't want pick 19 for financial reasons, then this just becomes an issue of whether they'd rather have Pau and JWill or pick #8. I don't think any team would give up more for Pau (including taking back J Will). Memphis is reportedly in financial trouble. They probably can't afford the huge salary increase that kicks in for Gasol next year. From our perspective, unless you're concerned about the salary cap, it's pretty hard to decline the opportunity to get Pau if it just means trading down from 8 to 19 especially when Warrick or Petro or another good athlete will still be available at 19.

Winning heals all wounds in sports. If the Knicks coudl start winning J-Will would be quite as a mouse.

I would do that deal in a second! whoever we pick at 8 would most likely take years to develop whereas Gasol is ready then you get the 19th pick and you have guys like Blatche, Wright, Warrick, McCants, Fernandez or Petro to choose from! and a solid backup in JWill. SIGN ME UP!

If Memphis wants to trade Gasol they could do alot better. Gasol is still young.

Who's gonna do better than give them pick 8 and take J Will off their hands? Gasol has a huge contract through 2011 (when he's due for $17.8 mil). If rumors are correct, money's probably more important to Memphis than getting a star in return, especially when they can get a very good player on a cheap rookie contract with the 8th pick.

People nebver get this, but how many of the trades that happen, occur more so for money than equal talent?
The overwhelming majority of the trades are about money. This is a business and these guys have bottom lines. Most teams don't want to be way over the cap if they're not contenders. It, along with many moves of its ilk, could happen.

People's favorite response to any proposed trade is "They could get a better deal somewhere else" Sometimes its true, sometimes its not, but the phrase is on autopilot right now. No team can offer a top 10 pick and 30 million in cap space at the same time, period. It would be something they would have to consider.

Wasn't it in Vecsey column awhile back that Memphis is looking to sell the pick?

So "just" 3 million would actually do it.

Check the Memphis newspapers, they make no mention of any interest to sell or trade the pick, Vecsey is nothing but hot air when it comes to "inside" rumors. Memphis has been focusing on bringing in guards to draft according to the Commercial Appeal newspaper.
