Ever notice that usually when a team gets the label 'exciting to watch' they rarely win it all? Pheonix has been at the top of this year's list of 'exciting to watch' teams. When I look at those guys, they are as weak as it comes on the defensive end. Their team play is great on the offensive end (although Nash had under 5 assists tonight..eek) but this team has absolutely no defensive concept. They are as clueless on D as any other team in the league. They just happen to be the smoothest running offensive team....NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

That said, when I look at the team that we have, along with our needs in the area of coaching, we can't just have 'exciting players. Crawford and Marbury in my opinion can dominate at the offensive end at any point but they CANNOT and DO NOT dominate on the defensive end whatsoever. Ariza looks to be moving in the right direction as far as having the work ethic and mentality to become a good individual as well as team defender. Sweetney fouls way too much for me. Looking at Pheonix I realize that one of my pet peeves with the Knicks, as well as a pet peeve with any team, is the mentality that says 'we will trade baskets until we either win or shoot ourselves in the foot'. That drove me up the wall this season more than anything.

I'm excited about the draft and offseason in hopes that we make some solid moves, but at the same time, the guys that we have MUST take this time to streghten their individual defense. Forget making exciting plays. Their is nothing worse than a bad defensive team. Our fowards need to spend the whole summer hanging out with JYD and Rose. Where is Charles Oakley these days? Give this man a job in some way.

Maybe Lambeer isn't such a bad idea after all lol

There certainly is some truth to what u say.... teams like wizards, memphis, and even dallas are high powered offensive teams that have much greater defense and the bigs than the knicks do....but in the end, their team just isnt enought against a high good defensive team like detroit, miami, and ofcourse the spurs.

But I think the suns powerhouse team can outrun about any team in the league but the spurs. Problem is that marion isnt a 4 and duncan isnt a the size of one either. They can not afford to trade baskets with the spurs because they literally give layups to duncan or double/triple team him leaving someone open for the wide open shot.

The Spurs are a great team and I never thought the suns had a good shot at em. They should have played hunter/outlaw/even voskul more. yes that would slow down the game, but they just gotta give duncan a harder time because stoudimire isnt a real C and isnt a good defender yet.

they have to play q,marion,j.j at the 2/3 splitting time and giving whoever is playing well more minutes...

however, I believe the good defensive teams will always generally play better playoff basketball and if we are truly rebuilding (if ny ever does) ...thats the route I would like to take.

also i believe since isiah started it, i think he has to finish it.... he has to buy himself the rebuilding process...meaning he should continue to take bad contracts i.e. rose and the 14th pick
3-4 years to slowly develop these players....exactly when most of our high salary players come of the books. bigmen dont grown on trees and we have to develop our own if we actually want someone special. I actually really liked brendan haywood for awhile now and I was hoping the wizards would have signed kwame and we could have stole haywood for the midlevel....but the way haywood developed this year, its def not possible.

And I know Ron Artest is a nut and i know we could have drafted him instead of trading for him now.... but hes the best defensive 2/3 out there. And I would like to team him up defensively with our draft picks.

One thing isiah is good at is spotting talent, and this is a supposingly a deep draft. I think we got to spend our way taking more bad contracts if we can draft someone who has potential 3-4 years down the road. If we fail, we will just have to trade marbary and look stupid and tank.....for the years to come. Marbary is by far the best player on the team even if he isnt dominating. We will be an under 30win team without him......
im not saying we should trade for the sake of taking a bad contract and getting a future pick but we have to get as much info as possible on the players on the draft and if we still see the players available in the draft like bynum at 14 and if he is what briggs thinks he is.....TAKE ROSE and him without a doubt

I would like to draft players that come from good worth ethic with size, and athleticism.

like everyone else

i think we should draft

a shot blocking athletic big
a big with great potential like bynum (hes raw and so young so u cant probably even call him an athletic big)
a big athletic 2 that can work both ends

if we can just accomplish any 2 of these withour picks, we can probably do some damage with our midlevel expcetion and when our contracts end 4 years later in the 09 season

and a j.c. and kurt thomas and penny for croshere and ron artest trade or w/e.....ill do it in a heart beat even though ron is a big gamble because we need to take one to save this franchise...
