I know I know, were living in dreamland here, but Larry is being very harsh on his best player, and I cant work out why?

What if we pick up Pollard and/or Croshere with JO for our $30 mill of expiring contract? They would have Ron Ron, Jackson and Tinsley, plus huge cap space next year for Yao etc.

Whadaya guys think?

Just checked on Realgm. I cant put Croshere in the deal, but Oneal, Pollard and Bender for TT and Penny works. Hell throw in Sweets. I dont care. Kurt should be aaiight next to JO.

nah, bird would somehow pimp IT for ariza, sweetney and the 8th pick, and IT would do it, and then spin the trade by saying J Oneal is athletic, a post player and he still is young.. The circle of mediocrity will then continue to spiral out of control..

I wouldnt hate losing the 8th pick for that deal. I would baulk at Ariza cuz i think hes special. Croshere expires next year too and Pollard expires at the same time as Houston, so Im not worried about the spiral of madiocrity. If we play our cards right, we could have Steph, Craw, Oneal, Ariza and MoT(untradeable by then) under contract in '07. Thats around the cap. Not a bad place to be at the end of LBJ, Wade and Carmelo's rookie contracts!!

you think IND is going to give up their franchise player for expiring contracts of crap players? the #8 pick is going to put it over the edge you think? no way bro.

this is Larry Bird's way of trying to motivate & challenge his star player to be more of a leader next season to take this team to the next level...there is NO ONE, i repeat, NO ONE on this Knicks' squad that would even remotely tempt Larry Bird to trade his star bigman to a conference rival for.

Dudes, that's not Larry saying he wants to trade Jermaine, this is what a good franchise does to develop their players and try to get them to take it to the next level.

The Pacers are one of the best run franchises in the league, that's why they'll never trade with the Knicks.

Hey T. Noones saying that this is a like for like deal here. Theres no way Indiana would trade Oneal for any other player, especially in their own division. But MONEY!?! thats a different question. Were not really offering them talent in return, but we are offering them the flexibility to get some in via FA.

And yes the 8th pick might be a difference-maker in that kind of deal.

Look here, we couldn't even get a deal done for Carter with Toronto, what makes you think that Bird would ever even consider dealing with Isiah??? what kind of drug are you sniffing on...

I would give up #8 Sweetney and expiring contracts for J'neal in a heartbeat but it ain't happen' folks!

I'd hate losing Ariza since he's the only guy on thise team who plays a little bit of perimeter defense!

if the Knicks had the #1 overall pick, maybe...a #8? no way dude...that cap relief won't even allow them to sign any impact free agents next year, since TT & Penny are still on the payroll until next season...just forget it, it's a ludicrous idea...not trying to offend you by that either.

So steph and Jo'neal plying together would be a circle of mediocrity huh? You are crazy.

Ariza, Sweetney and the 8th pick won't even get you in Larry Bird's office...are you guys for real?

Agreed. I saw the article as well but I think Larry Bird was saying this more to light a fire under Jermaine not to really trade him. If he was serious and actually thinking about going that route then the Pacers are going to want a huge up and coming player for JOneal.

I'm trying to think of some players in this league that could potentially get your Jermaine and there aren't many. They have to be young athletic big men who can play in the post. One guy that comes to mind is Zach Randolph and some draft picks but if you put Zach on the same team as Ron Artest then I think your asking for trouble. I could see a team like the Hawks trading pick #2 and some players for J'Oneal that might work becuase then the Pacers could take Marvin. It's tricky becuase JOneal is a young big man just about to enter the prime of his career, the price is going to be HIGH.

NY has one tradeable commodity to land any player of O'Neals stature and Marbury will never be traded as long as Thomas is GM.

Marbury won't be enough to land O'Neal either imo...& this is no knock on Marbury...there's just a premium on good bigmen in this league.

a Dirk Nowitzki for J. O'Neal type trade would be what it would probably take in all likelihood...something along those lines.

I would not cheer for Jermaine O'neal.....Period.

He is exactly what we need down low, but he gets into too much extra stuff on the court with the muscle flexing and arguing in the middle of games, etc......to me he is not about winning.....he has his own macho agenda. I don't think he makes his team better.

No thanx to O'neal. Let Indiana deal with him.

Besides the Knicks don't have a chance in hell to get O'neal. Bird would never trade us O'neal.

To be honest that isn't a bad trade, no disrespect to Ariza, Sweetney but O'Neal was serious candiate for the 2003-2004 MVP (last year), Ariza and Sweetney are just Ariza and Sweetney. 8th pick could be a budding superstar or could be Sweetney one pick earlier.

This shouldnt even be a thread. Jermaine Oneal is not going anywhere. And if he was getting traded its not to NY. He is Indiana's FRANCHISE player. He averaged 26 and 10 this season. Had a 55 point game (could of scored more but didnt want to past reggies record). Indiana had a bad season, he's injured but they might have 65 wins next year so...end of story he goes NOWHERE
