Hey I'm glad Mohammed is playing well, but I still support that trade to the death. I thought other than drafting Ariza, that was his best move as GM (we will see after the draft).
You sound like offering Kurt would have been an automatic for SA. Who says they didn't turn it down and it was Nazr or nothing? I may be crazy, but maybe they just wanted Nazr instead for the same reason we wanted Nazr instead.

Diderton, how many games would a team with this lineup with everyone in their prime win out of 82? twenty? thirty if they're lucky?

PG: Magic Johnson
SG: Michael Jordan
SF: Larry Bird
PF: Kurt Thomas
C: Wilt Chamberlin

Nazr>>>>>>>>Kurt

simple as that.

dumb trade.

We'll get Julius Hodge or some lame guard this year and the draft will be one of the weakest ever next year. Dumb dumb trade. I think the people who defended this trade are probably the same people who were cheering those last few wins that cost us Bogut.

Nazr is a roleplayer playing well on a championship team. He could not do what he is doing there with us. Stop crying. When we get a stud at 30 it will all make sense. Taft will come in and be as good as Nazr in his rookie season. This is ridiculous.

It depends how many times Kurt is "allowed" to touch the ball.

Would it be better to have Taft and Nazr or Taft, Hodge and Malik?

JUST IN!!! Isiah thomas trades the #8 pick and the NYK logo to the Hornets for Casey Jacobsen.

Nah on a more serious note, I dont see us being a good team till the year after next. Its sad but true. We gotta just depend on trades kow, because you kno Zeke is bound to make one. Who will be traded to the knicks to better our team?

Do what I do ... do not attend any game until Kurt Thomas is either off the team or on the bench where he belongs. Funny how our 2 best wins under Herb Williams (Boston, San Antonio) came when KT was out. Sorry KT fans but he's a cancer. He stalls the offense and he's the most overrated defender in the entire league. How many 2nd tier PF's have career nights on him? When was the last time he gave a hard foul? He's supposed to be our Enforcer yet why we do always back down from a comfrontation? KT is the symbol for this organization - a phony tough guy who isn't that good.

Now Kurt's a cancer? Look, I want the guy traded too, but I wouldn't exactly call him a 'phony tough guy'. He may seem a little soft by orienting his offense around the perimeter, but him and his crazy eyes won't back down from anyone, and he's not afraid to take the charge.
His defense is really overhyped, yes, but it's not exactly like he's a liability on that end. He's one of the few guys on the team that will play some D. He's also our most consistant player and has kept us in a number of close games (which may come back to bite us in the end.)
Like I said, I want to trade him as much as the next guy. He's getting older, and I would like to get a younger PF with above average D and a post game, but that doesn't make Kurt a cancer. You still have to give credit where it's due.

Yeah, Nazr was the man, Ewing who...I especially loved how he dominated the paint, what was Isiah thinking.

Right on Pharzeone. Remember when we were losing every game in January BEFORE Nazr got hurt? Sure he's chipping in nicely next to Duncan right now. So did David Robinson for his last 2 years when he couldn't even bend over any more or extend. I will take any day what we'll get from those 2 #1's and Rose over Nazr as our center.

Funny... in an alternate universe, we traded Kurt Thomas to the Spurs instead of Nazr, and after watching KT put up great playoff performances alongside Tim Duncan, it became in vogue for Knicks fans and overzealous media analysts to wonder loudly, "Why the hell didn't the Knicks trade Nazr instead?????"

Nazr's a nice role player who looks very good on a great team, playing in a great system with a great coach and great teammates, including the greatest PF of all time. I don't think it would be so in fashion to rue the loss of Nazr if we traded him back to the Hawks or some similarly bereft team. Role players' games are elevated when they can play their role on a great team that can accentuate their strengths and cover up for their weaknesses. So it is with Nazr.

when Nazr was healthy here, he was averaging 12 and 9 and 1 block. He was shooting 55% and second in the league in offensive boards. Kurt is a fine player, but Nazr was younger and bigger and cheaper. How was Nazr not better than Kurt? Kurt had a great mid-range J that served Marbury's pick and rolls well, but his defense isn't much better than Nazr's (Nazr has quick hands, forces lots of steals/TOs), his rebounding is only slightly better and he's a full five years older. Malik is also older. and shorter. and more overpaid. and can't block shots.

I wouldn't lament trading Kurt. I would love to have seen what Nazr/Taft/Sweetney would've looked like. ah well.

maybe we'll get Bynum with the the 30th pick like Uncle Chad says...

I wasn't comparing Nazr to Kurt. I was responding to your saying that it was a dumb trade. Nazr wasn't going to be our answer at center - I'd rather look elsewhere and use the 2 #1's, plus Rose's trade value to a contender. I'd have been just as happy making that trade for Kurt as I was for Nazr.

actually, looking at his numbers, before New Year's he averaged:

November 13ppg; 9.2rpg; (4.2orpg); .8bpg; 1.1spg; 54.4%fgp
December 12.1ppg 9.5rpg (3.4orpg) 1.5bpg; 1.25spg; 52.1%fgp

then his first two games in January he went for:

vs NJN 18pts; 13 rebs; 2blks; 2 stls; 7-13fg
vs SAC 22pts; 11 rebs; 2blks; 0 stls; 8-13fg

then, if memory serves he injured his groin in the next game versus Miami covering for Jamal or Marbury to slide over and get to Wade, but didn't sit out AT ALL. Then he injured the same groin again, AGAIN covering for one of the guards as he had to slide over to get to Ben Gordon against the Bulls.

The difference between the Knicks and the Spurs is the Knicks ran Nazr into the ground and destroyed his trade value, rather than rest him. He goes to San Antonio and sits out a month, they work him in slowly and now he's going good again.

Please don't act like Nazr didn't play well here. He was putting up Jamaal Magloire numbers in Dec/Nov when he was playing healthy. He and Marbury and Crawford were the main reasons this team was 16-13 at one point.

To say Nazr wasn't playing well here is a slap in the face. The fact that Isiah traded him away for Malik Rose and two crap picks that might as well be second rounders doesn't make things better. Sorry. I have very little faith in Isiah after that trade and I can't see how anyone in their right mind could defend it.

Think about it: we had a 27 year old 6'10" center giving us 13 ppg; 9rpg; 1spg; 1bpg and 53% fgp and we traded it for a 6'6" SF/PF who is third on the depth chart at whatever position he can play.
