Getting a contribution from him is so important to the Mavs. He's the only legit center in the series and he can actually force Amare to work on defense. Damps can be a top 6 center when he wants to be. He just needs external motivation (which is a bad thing to need), be it from Dirk or a coach who can fire him up.

This guy needs a fire under his ass to do anything.

While he would have been an upgrade on anything we have, Im glad we don't have him!

We also wouldn't have had the emergence of Nazy (and subsequent two late 1st rd picks) had we had Damps. In the long-run, it worked out better for us that he chose to go to Dallas for more money.

Yeah and his would have been another heavy long term contract that we really don't need. I must admit, I wanted him badly though.
