An interesting wrinkle to the proceedings! This is a big help for us. Even if Bynum doesn't last til 8, it raises the slim chances that Green or some other prospect slips that far. And if Bynum does last til 8, from what I've heard, we'd be hard pressed to pass him up. Win-win for us.

Who is this kid? Has anyone actually seen him play on this board?

According to the link he played in the McDonalds All-American game and he supposedly played well in the Jordan Classic. That's what's out there.

I don't care if he can run and dunk. I wanna know if the guy plays aggressive with the footwork and strength to match his post moves.

Ok BRIGGS, as much as you want us to draft him, where do you think he'll actually be taken?

yeah, i saw both televised games. he is raw[like any 17 YO] but he has skills--he had 4-5 triple doubles this year in a shortended season in hS--something like 15 blocks in one game, he hit a three point shot in the jordan classic. he got position at will showed nice hands and a nastiness in the lane. what he needs to go through are conditioning programs--he runs the floor all right, but when he gets into a serious program, he will improve. I also know a great deal of the uconn insiders board-hes a good kid, his doctors think he will end up at 7-2, he has a 7-7 wingspan with a 9+ standing reach. he started the season at 330 and now is down to 285--he was actually 295 in the all star games. His body fat for his size is low, so this is how big he is.
he needs to gain explosion, burst, and hard work on fundamentals[although what he has now is advanced for 17 --like his skills are WAY WAY better than Diop at 22 and 4 years of nBA basketball.

Is there risks? yeah, but I believe this represents out of the box thinking--not what i can do for my team in year 1, but this is a piece that could bring me to championships, to bring me into the playoffs every year etc...

at worst, a 7-1 290 C is going to be a very serviceable player to the downside, maybe a jerome james downside? thats not a bad downside.

here's the deal - i know ZERO about the high school players b/c i've never seen them. i know some college players by watching some college games this year.

i like warrick. i like granger.

but if we're rebuilding - and i hope to god that's the case - then you take a center like this to tell everyone that. heck, if this was us last year, i would've drafted robert swift.

so let's see what's up. bynum declaring means he got a guarantee.

i still can't believe we won those last few games to miss out on the 7 spot. awful...

I rather take Ralph Morris the freshman of Kentucky. He's 6'11 and athletic. Andrew Bynum is gonna take a while, he should go to college.

I saw the McDonalds game also, and I was not overly impressed with Bynum, he looked big, a little slow and raw... but he is young and a seven footer, so who knows...

i was shocked he didnt start, but neither did green. bynum is huge and had skills. he's gotta drop 20 pounds or more, but think eddy curry. but bigger. seriously. i'd say still go for green first, then bynum...

Isiah has said he wants to draft players that could help right away.

Geez.....the lottery is when May 24th? The draft is when? June?

I can't wait till the off-season comes.

Briggs , you've made me a believer. Bynum must be drafted by the knicks. Hopefully a slight trade down will suffice (12/13/14) but lets not take any chances and take him at 8 anyway.

I saw him in the mcdonalds game where everyone was talking about blatche and I kept thinking "who is this bynum kid?" I would think we would have to take him. He wouldn't have an immediate impact I don't think because his body isn't right yet, but the potential could be crazy. I would think we would HAVE to get him, 7 footers don't grow on trees.

This is all the more reason why we need 2 picks. We absolutely NEED 2 picks!! If Zeke can do that, he can secure our future.

Wow, awesome news. Haven't seen him play much but I trust BRIGGS on this one.

There is a good possibility that Charlotte at pick 13 has gotten some kind of word to Andrew that they would select him if they don't pick Bogut at pick 13. I think in many ways it's to bad that this kid is kind of being pushed, from what it seems from pure pressure and his older brother. Im not saying that the kid shouldnt explore his posibilities, and quite frankly the Knicks would be CRAZY, absolutely crazy if they didnt seriously look into the 7-1 290 pound Bynum. Some people are obssessed with getting someone they think will be playing 40 minutes immediately. On a team where there are NUMEROUS guaranteed contracts, you are just not going to see it. I see Bynum as the best *long term* choice for the franchise. I think on any given year, you can find guys who are 6-7 6-8 etc...and very athletic, but how long has it ben for the Knicks since we had a young, really legitmate 7 foot+ player that really does have a huge huge upside. Would he have to spend his first year training his body and skills? Yes, but is it a necessity to see a rookie play year 1? If we do want a shooter in the draft, we have 2 more picks and the possibility of moving up and or acquiring an additional pick. I think at 8, we could get Andrew, I think you start talking risk reward after 5 in this draft. Its not strong at the top, but its real nice in between 5 and 45.

I would take a long look at Bynum. He's one of the only high schoolers who interests me.

Im afraid of Isiah. Yeah he proved he has good eye for talent, but right now the least this team needs is to take a player in this draft that could help us immediately but not have the potential of being someone great in the future. We don't need another PF to help now. We need to build a good future now and the best way is by drafting guys with great potential, even if they can't help now. If this Bynum is as good as people say he is and could turn out to be a good-great center in some seasons, why not take the risk.

Now, if you have both Green and Bynum avaliable at 8th, who would you pick?

Not to burst any bubbles, because I haven't seen Bynum play, but why is he not listed on anyone's draft as a top player for this year's or next year's draft?

Unless there is a link that someone can display showing otherwise.

I found a profile on NBA Draft.net but it has Bynum listed at 6-11 240 not 7-0 295 in 2004. Maybe these are older figures on his size, but I'm curious which is more accurate.

Then I found this from an article from About.com:

http://probasketball.about.com/od/highschoolbasketball/a/mcdonalds05.htm

Andrew Bynum
7'0"/300 lbs.
Center
9 points, 5 rebounds
Headed To: Connecticut
NBA ETA: 2007
Word: No one did more for their stock than Bynum, who has the size and lower body strength that NBA scouts drool over. Thus, became a pro prospect overnight with his performance. Not very skilled, but can get up and down the court and has a towering presence inside. Will be even better when he sheds 15-20 pounds. Still needs to learn the fine art of shot-blocking/post defense so he'll be plagued by foul trouble early in his career, but he's in the right program to learn the trade. Reminiscent of Brendan Haywood with a splash of Coolidge from the White Shadow thrown in.
