I keep reading...."great young core of Ariza, Sweets, Craw, Butler"....I don't see how Butler and core belong in the same sentence. Isaiah took a flyer on a young kid with a big body. Glad he did. But, this is just a flyer. We had a roster spot open & IT filled it. Penciling in Butler is mighty optimistic.

he played 6 minutes and didnt touch the floor down the stretch--as far as I am concerned, Jackie Butler is much a Portland Trailblazer, a foreign player, a CBA guy as much as he is a Knick

to be fair, IT never promised he would get PT this season. the deal was, sign him, get him working with the coaches, and go from there. he should definitely play summer league for us, we'll see what happens from there.

but the fact that Kurt Thomas has remained the best starting bigman on this team after 4 straight 30win seasons makes me wonder if Butler will ever play over the Maliks of the world.

I remember reading a quote right after Isiah signed Butler which said that Butler was never going to see the floor all year long. Which goes right along with what Masterplan said, the reason they signed him was beucase they wanted him working with Aguirre for the rest of the year and they probably only signed him during the year because they didn't want to take the chance on not signing him and having someone else pick him up.

While I wish I saw Jackie play there is absolutely no reason that they should throw him out there if they feel he's not ready to play in the NBA or if they didn't want to put him out there. We are the minority on this board, we all have a good sense of basketball knowledge(well most of anyway... just kidding) and we are the only people complaining about this. Im sure coaching staff know what this kid has going against the team in practice and us fans will find out what he's got in the summer league. I think people are making this a much bigger deal then what it really is. The only reason they would throw him out there is to show the fans what he has and there really isn't a reason for us to know that yet if you ask me.

I agree.

I hope the kids pans out. It would be cool if he has a great summer league and wins a place the same way Ariza did. He has the body and the rep from the CBA that shows he has talent. The Kid is still young.

I keep saying man the Knicks are due for some luck. We lucked out with Ariza and maybe Butler will be another one.

Butler only signed for the rest of the year - Butler and the Knicks have to agree on bringing him back for summer L and the next year.

Yeah I know that Case, but I think its very safe to say that he will be back next year. The only way I see him not coming back is if the Isiah was EXTREMELY unpleased with his progress/attitude which I never heard a problem with either. Isiah doesn't give up on young projects easily at all. You can bet on him being on the Knicks summer roster.

Keyword Easily Case. He did not give up on Jermaine O'Neal, Jonathon Bender, Jamaal Tinsley. Vranes is out of the league and Lampe did nothing in Phoenix and can't even crack the Hornets rotation, I'd say he saw that he couldnt help these guys and that was it.

I agree. He's an extra draft pick as far as I'm concerned. He has decent size, and hopefully they work with him and turn him into a good NBA player. They signed him for a reason, and i can't wait to see the summer league games.

it would have been nice to see butler play more- he showed flashes in his 30 sec stints in garbage time.

playing at the professional level requires a great deal of confidence and having him play when he's not ready could theoretically destroy him.

if the dude's confidence wasn't shattered when he went undrafted out of HS, i think he'll be OK taking a few lumps on court for a lottery team.

That's true. I wanted to see him play, but I remember when he was signed, most posters here said they wouldn't mind if he spent the entire season on the IR and just worked with the team.

yeah because we were still in the playoff hunt and looked better under Herb for a few games. Then once we were virtually eliminated after the Seattle loss things should've changed but they didn't!

After the awful January, we lost all hopes of being in the playoffs. That was before we got Butler.

insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Every game we ran the same guys out there with the same lame results. There are two trains of thought that could explain this to me. One is they are insane. The other is they actually thought that team was good enough to win and would eventually "get it."

Either way we are totally screwed. The Yankees with their world class talent and high priced v eterans benched one guy and move another to the outfield and put rookies in the SL. When what your doing doesnt work you have to change it. Unless of course your the Knicks.

Why do you keep ignoring that the Knicks gave their 19 year old 2nd rd pick similar playing time to their $15 mil per year SG (Penny) even when both were healthy? Isn't that pretty similar what the Yankees did in moving a new kid to 2nd base? The Knicks also started their 2nd year PF (who did not earn the minutes) over many veterans, who each got less mpg than Sweetney. How is that so different from your Yankee example?
