WE KNOW Shaquille O'Neal's a primetime TV star and he may be the biggest kid on the block, but when does the NBA give him a time out? When is he sent to his room for a little sensitivity training? Or ordered to sacrifice a tiny piece — say $25,000 — of his weekly allowance?

O'Neal was at it again, Sunday, making with some low-brow women-bashing, openly saying that Lawrence Frank's complaints about him getting away with fouls qualified the Net coach to "change his name to Laura Frank."

My older daughter's name is Laura, but unlike the NBA, she wouldn't have allowed O'Neal to escape with such a misogynistic, old-school (grammar-school) put-down.

And it's not as if this is anything new from sugar-Shaq. He has been given to calling the Sacramento Kings the "Queens."

What's more, two years ago, O'Neal got away with similar childish bigotry when, after he was asked what he might say to Yao Ming, he made with some Chinese-sounding gibberish. It was an insensitive and antiquated response that he apparently found as hip and as clever as ordering flied lice.

But, having insulted more than half the world's population — women and Chinese — the NBA gives him a look-away pass. It's not, after all, as if he criticized an NBA referee.

I don't particularly like Mushnick, but I think he brings up a good point here.

This was also particularly true:
The problem with TNT games called by Kevin Harlan — Game 5 of Nuggets-Spurs, Wednesday, Game 6 of Mavs-Rockets, last night — is that unless you have a burning desire to see the game, you have to make a conscious decision whether you're willing to suffer Harlan's pre-fab hysteria, which includes hollering as if he and we had never before seen someone hit a three-pointer.
