Bonzi Wells averaged a career high 17 ppg and 6 rebs on a team that won 49 games in the regular season. He was the second leading scorer behind Rasheed Wallace. This team was swept in the playoffs by a Laker team that swept the whole playoffs including the finals. Bonzi Wells is still 27-28 and has one year left on his contract at 8 million.

He is a talented offensive player and a better than average defensive player. He can shoot from everywhere and can even post up other guards. He is a player we should definitely be taking alook at.

if MEM would take Mo T or Malik for him, sure (it would be a nice salary dump for the Knicks)...but MEM will probably ask for a 1st round pick to be included at the very least.

Bonzi for Malik? MEM would get on their knees and beg us for that. Forget it man, Bonzi is a waste of time.

? why would they beg us for that when they can simply refuse the option on Bonzi's contract & let him come off the books? why would they take on Malik's extra $19 million left on his deal?

The only way it makes sense is if he meant to say that we would have to get on our knees and beg Memphis

i think memphis could use a hard-nosed defensive PF, especially if pau and stro may not be back. whether they would consider trading for KT, malik, or JYD is another story given their contracts, but i don't think its out of the question. dropping bonzi doesn't get them under the cap, so if it's a choice between losing a talented player and downgrading talent but filling a need, they would have to consider it.

like i said, if you threw in a pick, maybe...otherwise, they can simply sign a player w/the MLE to fill that need...no need to take on all that salary unless you give them an incentive to do so.

so throw in a late first rounder and it becomes a selling job, where IT's "used car salesman" persuasion skills come in handy. who's better out there than malik, KT or JYD? battle-tested veterans, can help you, i don't know, maybe win a playoff game. you see what I mean? it's about time we really took advantage of somebody.

that said, i don't know if we really want bonzi. i would do all this to go after james posey.

A lot of teams would give up a major piece to get Malik - Phil's friend called this IT's best trade so far, and I agree. Bonzi is just garbage, so to get Malik (his salary is appropriate) for garbage is something MEM would not think twice about.

that's my point...is it worth a late 1st rounder to go after Bonzi who comes w/those character issues? i'd rather have Posey too.

Malik's a nice role player that teams would give up very little for (at least until he has an expiring contract) b/c they can get a player like him very easily via trade or MLE signings. There are many nice role players comparable to Malik throughout the league. Bonzi's actually a good, talented starter on a good team.

you're ignoring the intangibles. malik brings hustle, heart, championship experience, leadership, whatever. bonzi brings headaches. i think guys like bonzi- athletic wings- are even more replaceable than guys who have done as good a job on shaq as anyone.

bonzi is another castaway trailblazer headcase
damon stoudemire, darius miles, rasheed wallace, bonzi, derek anderson, the list of blazers that no one wants goes on and on
there's a reason why bonzi gets traded so often, and there's also a reason why there has never been any trade interest from other teams since back when bonzi was actually putting up good numbers

dude, that's like saying there are no good defensive PGs or Cs in the league because we have none on our roster. come on, we picked up ariza in the mid second round, dermarr johnson out of nowhere. they're out there, the challenge is picking the ones who will fit and perform, not seeing who's out there. there aren't many on the knicks because, back when, we decided we wanted houston and we took penny on.

Bonzi Wells is not the character type we want on this team. Forget him.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.
