the guy consistently shot 50% for his entire career at UNC well over 40% from 3, was a big piece in a national championship, has a long, mid range game with the athletic ability to finish well above the rim. hes a long 6-3/6-4 and built like a tank with long arms. he reminds me a lot of cutino mobley. if we can somehow move up that 2 1 to get him--I think that settles our need for a third G who can play right now. he's a sniper with athletic ability and there arent many of them left.

good post Briggs

McCants is my boy!

I don't care how you look at it his numbers are impressive and he's close to 6'4 and built well and has an amazing crossover and great hops. Could be a guy who takes his game to the next level in the nba.

I like mccants for all those reasons you posted briggs, but another is that, Mccants was asked to take less shots and become more of a team player, he did that, and he got better as a player and his team got better, good enough to win it all.

exactly why I think he'll elevate his level of play in the NBA. He really strikes me as one of those guys

I'm sure there's a max player with 5 years left we could take back to move up 8 spots

Briggs, I like what you have to say about McCants I have been off and on on him and maybe he makes it to the 2nd round for us, but some of the scouting reports knock his atleticism alot and say he has a poor handle. Not a good combination for a guard, honestly he reminds me of Mark Jackson with a Jumper. Jackson had decent handle but great court vision, and was also a shorter stocky powerful guard. Is McCants a version of Mark Jax at the 2? And is that the type of guard we need?

Like I said I have been on and off of McCants (just like I have been with every other name in this draft)...

I remember being the first to want the Knicks to consider drafting mcCants after I saw him shake a guy in the regular season with such a perfect crossover and then I saw him leap in the air for a dunk in Steve Francis style! He's incredibly athletic! no doubt about it! and he shoots lights out! He just had a lesser role on a championshionship COLLEGE team, where you can afford to feature a 6'8 player in the frontcourt more, than the role he will have in the NBA. He's as much of an impact player as anyone else in this draft

I remember he was compared to Wade at some point and I would never pass up a chance at anyone who is comapred to Wade...he has the same size and body...I would definately take a chance on him if the scouting reports are wrong.

I compared him to Wade lol

just on athletism and impact it doesn't mean he'll be as good but he is a better shooter than Wade

mark jackson of the Knicks? i mean there couldnt be two polar opposites. mj was a pure PG who couldnt shoot and had very little athletiscm. mcCants is asniper who cans hoot in the medium and loing range. I saw him alley oop off the inbounds this year when I went to see uC-UNC and he was a foot over the rim.

Damn, like I said I was going off of a scouting report on Draftcity.net that said "he isn't close to athletic when compared to Cuttino Mobley", or something to that effect. I hardly watch college bball if at all so all I have is scouting reports to go on. In my defense I did compare him to Mark Jackson with a jumper

thats why you need to watch these guys and make your own judgments. not solely rely on draftcity and nbadraft.net because outside of the obvious top 3 picks they never have a clue and are always way off in comparison to how the draft actually pans out. like for example how they had Lampe going 5 and he went 30 and they had Wade going much lower and he went 5 to Miami

I've seen ever game McCants has played the past two seasons. The guy is a monster. He scores when he wants to and the only guy that shut him down all season was Deron Williams when he moved onto Rashad in the second half of the championship game and that was because McCants didn't need to do too much because other guys were hot.

His passing ability is the most underrated aspect of his game -- he see's the entire court and has the same vision as Felton. When he wants to get teammates involved he is incredible at getting guys the ball in good position.

He is undersized but has very long arms and is powerful. He is lethal in the lowpost and powers smaller guys and uses quicker moves in the post against bigger guys.

His defense improved tremendously this season. He was solid one on one and really played pressure d. The only knock I had on his d was sometimes he took too many chances that led to open shots for the opposing team.

He won't be able to make the switch to pg easily, however, and won't be like wade because his ballhandeling is fairly suspect. He is an amazing athlete and good one on one but isn't quick with the ball in the open court.

He will be a good player in the NBA if he stays focused. He needs to play under a great coach that can get through to him. He has the chance to be special in the NBA (maybe even like a Michael Redd)

I would like to see the Knicks acquire another 1st rounder. Don't know how. Maybe Houston's. McCants would be a nice addition. I believe he is more like AI with a better shot. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Marbury on the court at the same time, with Crawford at the 3. We would suffer on D but that up tempo would be very hard to deal with. I still want to use at least 2 1st round picks to get big up front, unless Green is available, of course.

nice report.

We need him to be our SG with either Steph or Crawford at PG. We don't need him to be a PG. We already have 2

Has anyone heard any update on Houston. Because, SG maybe just as a big concern as acquiring a 5.

Yeah Mcants is a good baller, but will he be available in the second round? Too many teams are in need for PGs and Centers....By the time we get to pick, he will gone. He has one thing working for him, he is a product of N.C.

We can use the 30 pick on him...there isn't anyone that stands out to me at 30 right now, 30 would be the perfect fir for McCants....
