I am reminded of Mohammad Ali giving up his title, millions of dollars, to stick up for what he believes.

The US runners in Mexico City who took on a hell storm or critics for showing "Black Power" and protesting the treatment of blacks in the US.

Malcom X, Dr. Martin Luther King, Ghandi, NFL's Tillman for giving his life!

Countless of sports heroes, and heroes of the people for self sacrifice. Guys like Mutumbo give millions to build hospitals! So many stories. But this one really really shows great sacrifice and expression of a cause!:

Smith socks it to NBA in protest

Rookie J.R. Smith is not in favor of the league possibly imposing a 20-year-old minimum age requirement. But he doesn't want to speak out like Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal did earlier this month.

Instead, Smith has decided to show his displeasure by wearing his white socks up to his knees. He did it for the second consecutive game Monday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"It's just something me and some of the guys who came out of high school are pretty much doing," Smith said. "If more care, hopefully they will do it.

In Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, guard Shaun Livingston also wore high socks. Livingston played at Peoria (Ill.) Central High School before declaring for the 2004 draft. He was the fourth pick in the first round.

"We all hope they don't pass the rule for all the young guys coming up," Smith said.

Smith said if the rule would have been imposed this year, he would have fulfilled his commitment and signed with North Carolina, which won the national championship this season.
End of story

Man, these guys are really giving it up!

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Golden State guard Derek Fisher donated $700,000 to Arkansas-Little Rock on Monday night, and a new auxiliary gym on the campus of his alma mater will carry his last name.

Fisher presented a giant check to the school's athletic director, Chris Peterson, before the Warriors hosted the Los Angeles Lakers, Fisher's former team.

Most of the money will go to establish and fund the "Fisher Fellows" program, which will provide guidance to children from nearby Southwest Middle School to better prepare them for high school with the goal of going to college. The students will be paired with student-athletes from Arkansas-Little Rock to learn concepts of life and academics, as well as organizational, social and athletic skills.

A portion of the donation will go toward the construction of an auxiliary gym, which will be called the Fisher Gym. It will host the Fisher Fellows program.

"I'm extremely fortunate to be in a position where I can provide my assistance to something that has had a huge impact on my life and career," Fisher said. "I hope this mentoring program will give some of the students in Little Rock the chance to reach their potential and achieve their dreams, much like I had the opportunity to do so as a youngster."

They need to record a song, like "we are the world" to bring up awarness of the age limit! This is a clear violation of human rights!

Hah.
My personal favorite moment came during the 1995 playoffs. We were down 14-10 in the final two minutes of the game and who gets the call? Leon. It was a call from my publicist, Tina, who had just landed a sweet photo-op with me and the Cheerleaders after the game. We lost the game badly, and the season was over. But damn those ladies were fine.
I've got save that link.
