They have a lot of VERY VERY good young players on that team, they have a 67% chance at getting pick 1-2 and a 90% chance of getting top 3.

Knowing the Char wants Paul, they are almost a sure fire lock to get either Marvin Williams or Bogut PLUs they have pick 31, which could be as good as a 13-17 in normal drafts. After that, they have 25MM in cap space next year and lets say they sign one max player--they have the ability to sign both Curry and Chandler to frontloaded max contracts, putting pressure on Chicago to sign them both, with the theme being they would likely only sign 1 back.

their line up next year could look like

C- Chandler 7-1 250
PF Williams 6-9 240
F Smith 6-9 225
G Childress 6-8 210
G Lue 5-10 170
C Collier 7-0 245
PF Harrington 6-9 245
G
PG Ivey 6-3 190

fter the contract they gave Harrington, I doubt that they would move him to the bench, I agree taking Chris Paul makes alot more sense for them.

reminds me of the knicks, only they will get 2 years...in new york, if my calculations are correct (ny minute = 24.9 seconds) we get a little over 15 months.

Ahhh...that explains why Atlanta can suck for 15 years and everyone (not me) is calling for zeke's head. =)

dont be an idiot.. if the Knicks had half the young talent the Hawks had people would be very willing to be patient. Not to mention they would be talking about adding some bigtime FAs this year. We are talking about adding Steven Hunter. We couldnt even afford Earl Watson... not that we need him. We can always just play Marbury 50 minutes a game like we did yesterday. Back up PG and center are overrated anyway

how did they react in Atlanta when management promised the playoffs, made the guarentee and they stunk? Were people patient then? I seem to recall a year later that big 3 for Rahim/Ratliff/Terry being moved in a firesale.

Sorry.. but they have the same level of patience everywhere. If you stink and make bad moves you get killed. The thing w/ Atl is a) nobody cares and b) there arent 20 papers and internet sites documenting how lame you are.

Doesnt mean your not lame though

In theory Atlanta could do a Phoenix type turnaround, but nobody wants to go there. Cap space is useless if you don't sign anyone with it. Example - the Bulls after they broke up the dynasty. Best chance for Altanta is to draft well, develop the kids, and pray that they can hang onto them.

I have a feeling Atlanta will wind up with Stromile Swift for an insane ammount of money (i.e. overpaying). The Hawks would be short, but think of the shotblocking with Stro and Josh!!! Oh man, that would be awesome. If the Hawks could add Bogut or Paul to those guys, I could see a quick turn around.

There's no way Chicago lets Tyson Chandler go. No way in the world. Curry they might let go with his heart issues.

hawks have something like $25 mil in cap room.

will they have to overpay - hells yeah but it will be on their OWN TERMS. we have to give up picks to get superstars like mo taylor.

they can easily parlay that $25 mil into some wicked combo like:

dalembert/swift/watson

that would give them the best defense in the league and i didn't even mention their #1 pick.

they can then trade childress for a SG and their set with 7-8 < 25 year old players for the next 10 years.

well, the truly maddening thing is, if the Knicks ever had cap room, we could easily lure all those guys. like other people said, it's a lot harder to lure guys to Atlanta where no one comes to see the games.

Philly wants Dalembert, Memphis wants Watson (they hate JWill). I think Stro will be the guy who slips into UFA and Atlanta will overpay to make a splash.
