I don't see them splurging money on guys like that. Those #s are reasonable, but I doubt Charlotte will spend even that much. And a max for Joe Johnson? No way he gets max, especially from Charlotte.

they are rquired by the league to spend 33mm next year to reach the minimum salary cap threshold. In this league, you have to overpay a tad, or what people think is overpaying because it puts financial pressure on the RFA team. a Frontloaded max contract would probably start at 14.5mm season 1, puts a LOT of pressure on Pheonix $$ wise.
Johnson is a pure fit for Charlotte.

How old is Brevin Night? I'm not sure he will last in the league for 3 more years, let alone 5.

And why do you want to lock up all these midrange contracts with questionable players. That would take away their flexibility.

I think they would rather concentrate on building around Okafor, and avoid investing into role players untill they have the second star, like Penny and Shaq were, etc.

I dont't think Johnson is that guy either, he is more of a 3rd option on a team with 2 established superstars.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

It shows that for a 1st yr expansion team, they have a much better foundation/outlook for the future compared to some other teams especially the KNICKS. If they add a few reasonably priced & well experienced vets as role players, who know what kind of good seasons they could have in the next 10 yrs.
