Why not hire this guy at some capacity with the Knicks? He is an excellent basketball mind, who in my opinion could definitely offer a thing or two to this organization. He is very eloquant and is not affraid to speak his mind. if Isiah decides to return to the sideline as a coach, which I hope, he should bring in GA as our GM

Post your thoughts.

I don;t think Zeke will ever hire a guy who steals his spotlight. Greg wouldn't steal it, but he'd certainly get some limelight, being a well-known and well-liked Espn guy. I don't see it.

Also, why take a no-power position with the NYK if CLE is offering a real GM job?

I may not agree with his political views, but if he can help the organization, who cares about his politics?

I don't get it. Is Greg Anthony an active Republican? Is that what you guys are talking about?

Who gives a damn about the guy's politcal preference? I don't. Bottom line is that the cat has the knowledge necessary to turn a franchise into a very good team, and that is all..

just curious where you draw the conclusion from that Greg Anthony is somehow qualified to take over an NBA franchise & turn them into a very good team? it's very easy to say "get this guy & that player is what they should go after" from a commentator's chair...it's quite another to actually wheel & deal w/the other GM's to GET those players.

I agree with your saying TMS but theres no way around it, thats how people get jobs. If you were a smart player in your playing days most of the time people just assume you can coach or run a team, its the way it goes. I wouldn't mind having Greg Anthony back with the Knicks in some capacity, I don't think Isiah is returning to coaching anytime soon (watch me eat my words this offseason) so Greg would have to come in as coach or some sort of front office position; neither of which I are more sexy then the Cleveland GM job, if they are offering it, he should take it.

I sure don't think Joe Dumars, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Ernie Grunfeld, Danny Ainge, etc, etc, etc, had much prior experience before becoming GM. Some have worked out and some haven't. But the fact is they are oftentimes given chances that others wouldn't have had because of who they were as players.

What I don't get about Greg Anthony is when did he become so wise. Because he spent with the Knicks, I never saw anything mature about him. Great you're UNLV Rebel and speak well. Isiah was given an opportunity in Toronto because he has past experience recruiting kids out of the Chicago area, helping them prepare for the NCAA and then the NBA. I don't know if that is on Greg Anthony's resume.
Other than Jordan everyone else had experience either on the bench or in the front office, and many people said Jordan was very much an unofficial coach for the Bulls. Greg doesn't fit in any of those categories.

no kidding...that's not what's in contention here...i'm merely asking what makes anyone here think that Greg Anthony would do a good job...you just said it yourself, some have worked out & some haven't...that doesn't prove a thing to support that line of reasoning.

You were the one who questioned Greg Anthony's qualifications to be a GM. I agree he isn't qualified, and neither were others I mentioned. You never really elaborated as to why he wasn't qualified, you only mentioned that it is a lot different as a tv analyst than actually "wheeling and dealing" with other GMs.

Anthony seems like one of the smarter analysts covering the NBA but I get this vibe that if he were to be a GM that he wouldnt like any idea that didnt come from his own head.

Nothing wrong with being confident in your abilities and sticking to your guns, but he doesnt strike me as someone who would put much stock in opposing viewpoints no matter how intelligently laid out they were.

Im not saying this is as fact, just a feeling I get.
