TRAIL BLAZERS FORWARD ZACH RANDOLPH HAS KNEE SURGERY

Portland Trail Blazers forward Zach Randolph underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this morning. Randolph's surgery was performed by Dr. Don Roberts, Trail Blazers Team Orthopedist, at the Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, WA. In addition to the arthroscopic procedure, Dr. Roberts performed a microfracture procedure to the exposed bone surface to encourage cartilage growth.

Randolph is expected to begin mild rehabilitation activities immediately and will be placed in a straight leg immobilizer for three weeks. He is expected to be ready for training camp in October. Randolph missed 13 games this season with a bone contusion of right knee before being placed on the Injured List on March 14. In 46 games, he averaged 18.9ppg and 9.6rpg and recorded 22 double-doubles.

The Trail Blazers travel to Seattle to face the SuperSonics tomorrow night before returning home to host the Denver Nuggets in the Rose Garden on Saturday. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.

It's definitely more serious than I realized if he had microfracture surgery. If we can get him *without* giving up our lottery pick, it's still a huge steal IMO

NO NO NO NO NO!

oh yeah...NO!

please no Zach Randolph & that crazy contract of his...how many freakin' issues & question marks does a guy need to have to make him not worth his contract to some of you? you all cry about Houston's contract, Crawford's contract, TT's contract, etc., etc. yet want to take on a guy w/attitude problems coming off knee surgery who's signed to max dollars for the next 6 years...the logic on this board boggles my mind sometimes.

Anyone know if the microfracture surgery was done on a weight-bearing or non-weight-bearing (as in Jason Kidd's case) part of the bone? That can make a huge difference.

Yeah, it was funny. It was like the Vince injuring his vagina lines. (An injury prone max player I'd take BTW)

I can see it now on draft night. Stern comes to the podium and announces this trade.

"There has been a trade. The knicks trade the rights Gerald green, both of next years first round picks, sweetney and ariza, for Zach randolph, Ruben patterson and a free subscritpion to the Oregonian"

Then during the first game of preseason, Zach re-injures his knee, and misses the whole season... Knicks fans are reported outside of madison square garden, preparing to burn it to the ground.... I will be one of those people...

Close. Very close. Actually Zach will play 3 preseason games, growing more and more dominant with each appearance and filling Knicks fans' heads with visions of titles. Then in the 4th quarter of the 3rd preseason game, after logging 30+ minutes he'll stuff in a rebounded shot and then blow out the whole knee.

Zach had a bone contusion to the articular surface of his right femur. Here is an explanation of articular cartilage...

http://www.jri-oh.com/Knee_Articular.htm

It sounds like from this explanation, that if the knee cartilage doesn't grow back with the microfracture surgery, that the knee can become arthritic, like Allan Houston's injury. That's why I was expressing concern over Zach's injury when there were a billion and a half threads on him before.
